New Big Lots

A new Big Lots has opened at 1308 W. Patrick St. in Frederick, the former Toys R Us site.

Big Lots held its grand opening Friday at its new Frederick location at 1308 W. Patrick St.

From June 7 to July 20, the store will donate $5 to Mission of Mercy each time a Big Rewards loyalty member redeems a reward at the Frederick store. Mission of Mercy is a local charity that provides free health care, dental care and medications to the uninsured and underinsured, according to a news release.

The 32,046-square-foot store will showcase a new store layout and design in all Big Lots stores.

“We are excited to introduce our new store format to Frederick,” said Steve Haffer, senior vice president and chief customer officer at Big Lots, in a news release. “It brings to life our new brand traits and showcases our product assortments of affordable solutions in furniture, seasonal, home, food and consumables. We are also very proud to serve alongside the Frederick community with our support of Mission of Mercy.”

Dig their generosity. They will donate $5 to Mission of Mercy each time a rewards member redeems a reward, from June 7 to July 20. Now the store just opened. There will be few customers at first. And only those that become reward members will be in the pool. Then they need to spend spend spend to gain a reward, and then they have to redeem it. There is a lag between earning the reward and redeeming it. Few if any redeem $1 rewards. By the time there are rewards of any significance to redeem the window will have closed. And the donation is only $5 which is tax deductible. Just another retailer hyping up phony baloney "community closeness" by making grandiose sounding claims that amount to next to nothing, which is what it costs them.

It's actually really easy to earn a reward. If you spend at least $15, for three trips, you get your $5 reward. I already got one after just my first visit last week, so I can go redeem it any time now and they will donate. Maybe look into it a little bit before you completely bash something.

Is that where the Toys R Us was? What is Big Lot? Is it like K Mart?

Ex-Toys R Us Store. Big Lots is a chain that has stores around the Baltimore area. We have been to one in Eldersburg. They have furniture, seasonal goods, more like a home store. Sounds like this one may have groceries? I think they get “Big Lots†of goods from factory surplus, an ever changing variety of things. An up-scale Ollie’s?

It’s like a Kmart but without the class.

It's a lot like Ollie's.
