The Staples office supply store on West Seventh Street in Frederick gave $3,000 in school supplies to local teachers through customer donations.

The Fill the Classroom initiative allowed customers to buy a $10 bag stuffed with school supplies, which was then donated to area schools, according to Rob Keck, store sales manager.

Supplies included hand sanitizer, tissues, markers, crayons, notebooks and folders. The supplies were taken to North Frederick Elementary School on Monday. Any remaining supplies were donated to other area schools.

As ecstatic as I am that our community is coming through for our teachers, I am sad the generosity of the residents has been downplayed in the title. Which is the part most people will stop at. Staples didn't give $3000 worth of supplies, they collected that much in donations and presented $3000 in supplies.
