Maryland’s Tax-Free week returns Sunday and ends Saturday, Aug. 17.

Qualifying clothing, footwear and other select items under $100 or less, per item, are exempt from the state sales tax, according to the Comptroller of Maryland. The first $40 of a backpack purchase is also tax-free.

Items that cost more than $100 will be taxable and, with the exception of backpacks, all accessories and special clothing or footwear not designed for normal wear will be taxable.

For online sales, eligible items may be tax exempt if it is both paid for by the customer and the retailer accepts the order for immediate shipment, even if the item is delivered after Tax-Free Week.
