The Frederick County Board of Education has approved design proposals for the construction of Blue Heron Elementary School.

The documents included the site plan, building orientation, floor plans, and proposed building elevations for the new school. It is the second phase of a three-phase design process.

The school will sit on a 15-acre site in the Lake Linganore Hamptons West community and will be a partial two-story building. It will have two separate drop-off loops and entrances for cars and school buses as well as a playing field and paved court.

The building will have a capacity of 705 students.

Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2020, with students occupying the building starting in September 2021.

The motion for approval of the documents passed 4-0 with school board member Liz Barrett abstaining. Board President Brad Young and member Jay Mason were absent. The motion also received support from the student member.
