Mount St. Mary’s university recently welcomed a new university chaplain and director of campus ministry.

Rev. Martin O. Moran III officially started Thursday.

“I am thrilled that Father Marty has accepted our offer to lead our Campus Ministry and look forward to the implementation of new programs and services, particularly for our increasingly rich and diverse student community,” University President Timothy Trainor, Ph.D., said in a statement.

According to a news release, Moran joins the university from the Catholic Campus Ministry Association where he served as executive director for six years. He also previously served as pastor for several churches in Pennsylvania.

While serving as director of the campus ministry, Moran was involved in creation of a program to provide resources for campus ministers.

He also co-founded the Mother Maria Kaupas Center, along with Bucknell University and the Divine Redeemer Church in Mt. Carmel, Pennsylvania. The center brings laity and clergy together and promotes volunteer service.

In a statement, Moran said he is excited to join the Mount community.

“I was drawn to the position because of the Mount’s rich history in forming future leaders for our parishes and faith communities along with the strong connections between religious life and the student body.” Moran said.

Moran will replace Rev. Diego Ruiz, IVE who previously served as university chaplain and is now joining the Mount St. Mary’s Seminary staff as priest formation advisor and spiritual director.
