The Frederick Women’s Distance Festival, the Frederick area’s premiere women’s road race, will welcome the youngest female runners with the addition of the Little Women 1K Fun Run, named for Louisa May Alcott’s still popular and timeless story.
The Little Women 1K Fun Run is open to girls from infants through age 13. Parents are welcome to run or walk alongside their daughters in this non-competitive, untimed event.
This year’s Frederick Women’s Distance Festival, organized by the Frederick Steeplechasers running club, will be at Frederick Community College on August 9. The Little Women 1K Fun Run will be at 7:30 a.m., followed by the main 5K race/walk at 8 a.m. The race is one of 10 in the Maryland Women’s Distance Festival series.
Women who complete four of the 10 races are eligible to receive the Women's Distance Festival Participation Award. For more about the series, email firstname.lastname@example.org. The next race in the series is May 18 at Goucher College in Towson. More about the series is at the RRCA Maryland Facebook page.
The 2013 Frederick race attracted almost 400 area runners and raised $9,700 for the Women’s Giving Circle of Frederick County.
