Emily Johnson, of Frederick, and Lauren Parks, of Hagerstown, are two of the nine senior art students whose work is featured in the student honors exhibition at McDaniel College in Westminster. The exhibit runs Tuesday through April 4.

Air Force Airman Casey J. Miller recently graduated from military basic training at Joint Base San Antonio. Miller is the son of Kevin and Jolene Miller, of Frederick, and is a 2012 graduate of Gov. Thomas Johnson High School.

Gabriel Maymon, of Frederick, was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Johns Hopkins University. Maymon is the son of Jeffrey and Betsy Maymon and attended Walkersville High School. He is majoring in mechanical engineering and plans to graduate in May 2018.

The following area students were Dean’s Award recipients for the fall semester at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York: Jacob Friedberg, of Westminster, a neuroscience major; Glenna Thomas, of Laytonsville, an environmental geology major; and Christian Quattrociocchi, of Germantown, a history major.

Katelyn Hallock presented a junior voice recital in the Carter Center for Worship and Music at Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Virginia. For her soprano recital, Hallock performed “The Daisies” by Samuel Barber, “It’s All I Have to Bring” by Ernst Bacon, “Vedrai, Carino” from Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and “Salve Regina” by Giacomo Puccini. She also sang two pieces by Johannes Brahms, “An ein Veilchen” and “Wir wandelten,” as well as “En prière” by Gabriel Fauré and “Nocturne” by César Franck, as well as a duet. A music major, Hallock is the daughter of Brad and Karla Hallock, of Frederick.

The following area students were named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia: Gianna Fogelbach, Kritika Shrestha, Joseph Walsh, Nadia Benmouna and Kumail Hasan, of Germantown; Manisha Pradhan, Heather Furman and John Cavanaugh-O’Keefe, of Gaithersburg; Emily Cissel and Brandon Palmer, of Damascus; Alexander Fuste, of Frederick; Rachel Keenan, of Myersville; Matthew Corbett, of Lovettsville, Virginia; Kaitlyn Eyler, of Westminster; and Kevin Genna, of Ijamsville.

Phillip Cai, of Clarksburg, received an associate’s degree Dec. 20 from the Oxford College of Emory University in Atlanta. He was also named to the honor list for the fall semester.

Jillian Ford, of Charles Town, West Virginia, was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Emory College of Arts and Sciences, the undergraduate, liberal arts college of Emory University in Atlanta.

Olutisefunmi Taiwo, of Gaithersburg, and Prateek Paul, of Germantown, were named to the merit list of Oxford College, the two-year liberal arts division of Emory University in Oxford, Georgia.

Dr. Holly Henry, a native of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, was recognized on March 11 by the American Astronautical Society as the recipient of the Eugene M. Emme astronautical Literature Award for the best book in 2013 to advance public understanding of astronautics. The award is named in honor of Eugene Emme, the first NASA historian. A professor of English at California State University, in San Bernadino, California, she is co-author, along with astronomer Chris Impey, of the University of Arizona, of “Dreams of Other Worlds: The Amazing Story of Unmanned Space Exploration” (Princeton University Press, 2013). She received the award at AAS’s 53rd Robert H. Goddard Memorial Symposium in Greenbelt.
