St. John’s Catholic Prep administrator Cathy Campbell, center, rode her bicycle 290 miles over 17 mountain ranges from Frederick to Pittsburgh last summer to raise $1,200 for the St. John’s girls softball team. The five-day trip, called Pedal Pittsburgh, averaged almost 60 miles a day, and climbed a total of 22,000 feet. She was with six other riders and a support van that made nightly hotel stops at Hancock, Frostburg, Deep Creek, Ohiopyle and finally downtown Pittsburgh. Along with training rides through the spring, she also collected pledges of support. The money will go to the girls softball team that Campbell coaches. Next year, she hopes to ride again and has a goal of raising more than $5,000. Campbell presents a check to, from left, Gordon Oliver, president of St. John’s; Marc Minsker, principal; Phil Heffler; and Silas Cheung, the school’s athletic director.
