Couple married for 75 years win 2019 Longest Married Couple contest

Elfrieda and Les Bell.

Les and Elfrieda Bell are the winners of this year’s Longest Married Couple contest. The contest is put on by the Marriage Resource Center of Frederick County.

The couple have been married for 75 years.

“You get the best girl you can early,” Les said of the secret to a long, happy marriage. “Love them all the way.”

“You have to have good communication,” Elfrieda added. “And have a lot of the same interests.”

The couple had their first date on Valentine’s Day 1942. Les took Elfrieda to the Snow Ball, the winter formal at their high school.

This year, Les plans to take Elfrieda and their daughter, Linda, out of dinner to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
