Junior Rangers and Park Pals — 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Fort Frederick State Park, 11100 Fort Frederick Road, Big Pool. Junior Rangers (8-14 years) and Park Pals (5-7 years) are nature-based outdoor education programs designed to get kids into nature. Pre-registration is required. $20 per child. www.dnr.maryland.gov.

Colonial Children’s Day: An Officer and a Gentleman — 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Fort Frederick State Park, 11100 Fort Frederick Road, Big Pool. For ages 8-12, a day of hands-on 18th-century activities. Experience the life of an officer stationed at Fort Frederick during the French and Indian War. Lunch is included. Beyond BOW Family Day — 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 29, Gambrill State Park, 8602 Gambrill Park Road, Frederick. For ages 7 and older, maximum of five people per family, including parent/guardian. Birds and Butterflies

Bob Schaefer Nature Walk — 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Fred Archibald Audubon Sanctuary, 6011 Boyers Mill Road, New Market. Searching for orioles and many other birds, and learning to listen for their songs to help spot them. Also, may see butterflies and dragonflies. All ages. Meet at the sanctuary entrance. Hikes

Cunningham Falls State Park — Wednesday, with the Mountain Club of Maryland. Approximately 13-mile loop hike starts at Catoctin Furnace parking area and follows the Catoctin Trail to White Rock overlook, lunch at the Mountaindale overlook and returns to the Catoctin Trail. Catoctin Trail/Gambrll State Park Hike — Saturday, with the Mountain Club of Maryland. 12-mile out-and-back hike includes some extremely rocky sections of trail, stream crossings and a few challenging climbs. For more information, call 410-747-2868.

Hunter Education Classes
