After announcing his intention in March to seek re-election to a third term, Frederick Mayor Randy McClement has officially thrown his hat in the ring.

McClement is the only Republican thus far to file for mayor and, unless another one files before the July 3 deadline, the race will not have a Republican primary.

McClement said in March that he planned to wait until the fiscal 2018 budget was finished and passed before filing and concentrating on his campaign. He was first elected in 2009 and again in 2013. If he wins in November, he will begin his third consecutive term as mayor.

The mayor and all five aldermen are up for election in 2017. The primary is set for Sept. 12, and the general election is Nov. 7.

Two candidates have filed for mayor on the Democratic ticket: Alderman Michael O’Connor and former Mayor Jennifer Dougherty.

A total of 10 candidates have filed for aldermen, all but one of whom are Democrats.

I cannot wait for my opportunity to vote this clown out of office. There's a failing bagel shop waiting for him to run it into the ground somewhere.

"If he wins in November, he will begin his third consecutive term as mayor." During his first run for office he said he was only going to serve once, he had a business to run, and he did not want to be a career politician...liar!

The excitement builds, like wind-driven whitecaps on a roadside puddle.

Good lord, never thought I'd say this but Jenny D is looking better and better
