Former congressional candidate David E. Vogt III has announced he will compete to become a Maryland delegate in District 4.

Vogt, who spent eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps, had been running in the 6th Congressional District, but bowed out of the contest late last month.

"I am confident in our decision to withdraw from that race, but I cannot sit on the sideline and wait for change," Vogt, a Republican from Brunswick, wrote Tuesday in a message to supporters.

District 4 covers much of Frederick County outside the city of Frederick.
