The Emmitsburg Board of Commissioners unanimously approved roughly $90,000 worth of paving work by three contractors at eight locations earlier this week.
Town Manager Cathy Willets said town officials hope the three contractors selected can complete the paving in the next few months, before warmer weather sets in. Most of the projects are located around downtown.
"I think they're all equal in need," Willets said Wednesday, adding the locations are part of a five- to 10-year paving plan in town.
Mayor Don Briggs said he started an initiative five or six years ago to put aside $65,000 annually for street paving projects, instead of taking money from the town's general fund. The eight paving projects the board approved should be two to three-day jobs, he added.
"We'll do everything we can to best accommodate the community … and our neighbors up in [Pennsylvania] who like to drive through our town," Briggs said. "As long as we’re going at it, we’ve always tried to stay in front of these things."
The projects will cost $90,941, and be completed by ECM Corporation, C.J. Miller LLC and Frederick County Paving, all companies with locations in Maryland.
