At least one of two young men accused of kidnapping and raping a classmate will appear before a jury next month.
The trial of Edgar Chicas-Hernandez is scheduled for Feb. 25 to 28 in Frederick County Circuit Court.
Chicas-Hernandez, 18, is charged with kidnapping, first-degree rape and first-degree sex offense. He has not accepted plea agreement offers, Frederick County Assistant State's Attorney Lindell K. Angel told the court Monday.
Chicas-Hernandez was arrested in September 2017 along with Victor Antonio Gonzales-Guttierres. The Frederick Police Department accused the two young men of abducting and raping a female classmate.
The classmate made the allegation to the Frederick Police Department and said that a third, unidentified youth was involved.
Circuit Judge Theresa M. Adams denied motions to have Chicas-Hernandez, who was 17 at the time of the alleged crime, tried as an adult.
Gonzales-Guttierres, 20, has not accepted a plea agreement either. His trial is scheduled for March.
