A man targeted by the county’s narcotics task force expedited his own arrest Monday after an alleged domestic assault led authorities to his crop of homegrown marijuana worth $110,000, authorities said.

The call brought Frederick County sheriff’s deputies to an indoor marijuana in Libertytown, which helped investigators link him to previous drug crimes, said deputies.

Hood College trustees stood behind President Shirley Peterson on Monday, three days after the Faculty Senate passed a “no confidence” motion against her administration. College trustees met with students, faculty and staff Monday to hear their concerns with the college, as officers of the Faculty Senate remained mum on the reasons for their action. But privately, several sources said the professors were upset with Mrs. Peterson’s leadership, her vision for the private college and Hood’s finances.

The witch folks are picking up the tab for new town signs in Burkittsville. The producers of “The Blair Witch Project” have sent the town a check for $1,143 along with an apology, for the inconvenience their film has caused the Frederick County village. The producers thanked officials for their patience with “unwanted visitors.”

Commissioners in Middletown postponed a decision about relocating some of the town’s sidewalks on East Main Street, but promised they will decide next month. Commissioners listened to one resident who wants the town to install new sidewalks form High Street to the Amoco station, then another who said he thinks relocating the sidewalks nearer the street is dangerous. A section of the sidewalk is now located high above the street, near residents’ front doors. If the sidewalks were relocated, a driver could jump the road, which often happens.
