The town is selling “forestry credits” from its heavily-forested watershed to developers who, under state law, must replace trees they cut down or find someone who will do it for them. Coblentz Farm Limited is paying the town $20,020 for five acres of forestry credits, and another developer is installing two water lines worth $55,950 in exchange for 20 acres in forestry credits.

Wal-Mart officials on Monday said they will proceed “full steam” with construction of a new store following approval of their plan by Frederick’s Planning Commission. The planning board unanimously agreed to a site plan that will allow the nation’s biggest retail chain to construct its second store in Frederick, a 135,858-square-foot building on the north side of the city at Monocacy Boulevard and Riverbend Way of Md. 26.

A life-long love of horses has brought Julie McCutcheon to where she is today. The horse enthusiast will be competing for the American Quarter Horse Association Congress Queen title this week at the AQHA national meeting Oct. 12 through Oct. 17 in Columbus, Ohio. She is the daughter of Robert and Debbie McCutcheon. “This is the first time I’ve been to the congress,” said Miss McCutcheon. “I’m really excited — it should be fun.”
