There were two countries in the world that were created on the basis of religion: Israel in 1948 and Pakistan in 1947. To this day, both countries have strong affiliations to their respective religions. Along with Pakistan, another country came into being in 1947, and it declared itself secular with no affiliation to any religion. That country is India. But sadly, this is not true anymore, since Hindu extremists now dominate the whole spectrum of daily living in India.

The situation has become dire since Narendra Modi became prime minister of

India in 2014. He belongs to the political wing of RSS. A member of this group assassinated Mahatma Gandhi in 1948. During his term as chief minister of the province of Gujarat, hundreds of Muslims were murdered. For this reason, the U.S. State Department had banned his entry into the country.

One would be surprised to know that Muslim rulers have ruled India since the 11th century A.D. Yet there are about a billion Hindus practicing their religion the same way they have done since its inception. More than 200 million Muslims, 28 million Christians and about 21 million Sikhs live in India today. This data would have been very different if all the Muslim rulers who ruled for more than 1,000 years in India had persecuted citizens of

other faiths, or forcefully implemented their religion or their way of life.

The unprecedented Hindu extremism in India since 2014 may lead to danger in the region. To understand the gravity of the condition, one need only Google “saffron terror.” Several episodes of terror committed by Hindu extremists will come up. It is not just targeting Muslims in India, but Christians as well. The Graham Staines killing, Gujarat riots and Samjhauta Express bombings are a few examples of extremist acts that were perpetrated by Hindu extremists.

Saffron terror groups are made up of extremist Hindus who have pledged to make India a completely Hindu state by any means, including genocide and forced conversion to Hinduism.

Saffron is the color of the cloth that

Hindu monks wear and has become the color that symbolizes Hinduism. The group is responsible for harassment and committing murder against anybody who shows disrespect toward their Gomatha, which means holy cow — but in India every cow is a holy cow.

Multiple lynchings and beatings have been committed against non-Hindus in the name of the holy cow. The irony is that India is the second-largest exporter of beef in the world and Hindus own the companies involved in this trade. The saffron terror group has never raised any issues in regard to the slaughter of their Gomatha with these people.

Extremism has become a kind of demagoguery that has permeated all groups of people in this world, not just among jihadists, as it is portrayed. One has to reevaluate their thought process and their dogma.

Not to pick nits, but Vatican City is also a country founded on a religion.

And some people think there’s another one.

Today’s FNP has a story on Ajay Kumasi an Indian asylum seeker released by US after a hunger strike.

The AP report states - Kumar fled India because he feared beatings, torture and death at the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ruling Bharatiya Janta Party. He said he was attacked twice by BJP members for his work promoting the opposition Indian National Lok Dal party, including a beating that had him bedridden for more than a month, according to a doctor’s note included in his asylum application.
