The U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland (Frederick News-Post, Oct. 5) has made it clear that the misguided immigration policies of our county sheriff are most likely to cost Frederick taxpayers dearly. When this charge is added to a number of other fiscal missteps regarding the contracts for immigrant detention and joining ICE as a partner in a highly controversial immigrant enforcement program, we have a litany of both policy and fiscal mismanagement of the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office.
Frederick County has moved well beyond the level of being a backwater county that relies on the arrogance and bullishness of an untrained non-professional as an accepted model of leadership.
It is time for a new, highly trained professional individual to be elected who will effectively lead Frederick County law enforcement in a 21st-century manner. We need someone who provides supportive leadership and who will raise the level of department management to the level of the deputy staff and beyond.
Apparently, the only oversight that the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office seems to have is the voters, and it is our duty to consider that after eight years of bullying, unresponsiveness, fake and apparently hidden public advisory committees, it is time to retire Chuck Jenkins.
Please check your ballot in November for Karl Bickel, a real and authentic professional law enforcement officer.
