Ben Wright’s commitment

It’s been wonderful and interesting to read the articles in The Frederick News-Post about Ben Wright’s coaching career and commitment to young men. Although the articles covered much of Coach Wright’s life and career, it didn’t speak to the Ben Wright we knew over the past few years.

When we met Ben Wright, some of us knew him, some knew of him, and several had never met him before he showed up at the Mountaingate Restaurant in Thurmont for a weekly Bible study. The Ben we came to know was not the Coach Wright we read about in The news-Post, but the Ben Wright that was earnestly seeking God and how to better follow his lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Each week, Wright would attend and share his walk with God.

For those thinking Ben’s health took a turn for the worse and he had a last minute conversion, Ben’s commitment to being a Christian occurred long before he found out that his cancer had returned. As Ben began to battle his reoccurrence with cancer, he never doubted or questioned God’s will for his life and stayed solid in his faith until his last breath on earth.

So, we miss the Ben Wright we knew, but understand that because of the Ben Wright we knew, we will see him again in heaven.

"For those thinking Ben ... had a last minute conversion...."

Was anyone thinking that?
