As members of the Frederick County Democratic Central Committee, we write to note our support and thanks to our congressmen, Jamie Raskin and David Trone, for voting to impeach President Donald Trump.

Each of you took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, both foreign and domestic. President Trump violated his oath of office and committed the highest of high crimes — crimes that put our national security and the integrity of our elections at risk. We know that both of you did not take the impeachment process lightly. And because we worked closely with your campaigns during the 2018 election, we know it was never your intent, or even hope, to go to Congress to impeach a president.

As Benjamin Franklin noted, we have a republic so long as we can keep it. You both represent Frederick County, a county that is evenly split between Democrats and Republicans. You did not put partisan calculations into your decision to vote for impeachment. You understand that we cannot allow a president, regardless of political party, to put our nation and our democracy at risk to foreign interference. Not now, not ever. Because of President Trump’s own actions, he left you and other members of the House of Representatives with no choice but to fulfill the duty the framers left to the House, and the House alone, the power to impeach a president for high crimes and misdemeanors. You have carried out that solemn and necessary duty with due diligence and care.

The office of the president carries with it great responsibility. It demands a dedication to the founding principles of our nation. It demands an understanding and appreciation that the president represents the State, but is not the State. Article II of our Constitution does not give the president the right to “do whatever I want,” as Donald Trump argued. We do not live in an absolute monarchy. We fought a revolution to break from a government that acted as such.

In extorting Ukrainian President Zelensky by withholding congressionally approved aid to Ukraine in their fight against Russian aggression, as well as a sought-after White House visit, unless he announced an investigation of former Vice President Joe Biden, a political rival, Donald Trump chose to put himself rather than his country first.

Therefore, we, the members of the Frederick County Democratic State Central Committee thank our representatives, Jamie Raskin and David Trone, for taking the necessary and proper action to vote to impeach President Trump.

I find it just a tad peculiar that some of the commenters who think the US intelligence community is to be trusted implicitly in this case are also amongst the ones who think the US intelligence community is part of the “Deep State” that has it in for Trump. Have they changed their minds about the reliability of the intelligence community?

veritas

Wow, this is HUGE. Stop the presses. Members of some lame county Democrat committee come out in favor of the Trump impeachment. No doubt this letter will get Nancy Pelosi off the dime and she'll finally send the articles of impeachment to the Senate. Or not. Who the heck knows?

Obadiah Plainsmen

One fact that is surprising is that Soleimani has more friends in America than Iran. Fear is a terrible trait Guess we will soon find out is it better to die standing up to terrorists and democracy or live as coward.

threecents

??

awteam2000

This isn’t whether Soleimani was a good guy but how does it effect the area strategically. Before this event Iranians were divided. Previously many Iranians especially the educated young protested against their clerical government. Trump pulled the string on that. Have you seem the crowds? historic numbers. Trump has somehow unified everyone in opposition to America. Millions in the streets in the last 3 days of mourning, Soleimani death has united Sunni‘s and Shia’s, Iraq and Iran, all against Trump and America. Everyone wants America out and calls for revenge. Even the US state department warns of the great threats to Americans around the world.

matts853

But the crowd isn’t bigger than at his inauguration. That was the biggest crowd in human history!

phydeaux994

The Americans that will die as a result of this one man decision to kill a man because he mocked him on Instagram will not agree with you OP. Trump always gets the last word on people that he feels threatened by.

public-redux

I missed the massive rallies in the US for the Iranian guy. Where did they take place?

phydeaux994

The 40% of people living in our Country who condone sending our beleaguered troops who have already sacrificed so much back to risk their lives, not to defend America but to start another another un-winnable WAR to do WHAT??!! What is the OBJECTIVE?? How does it MAGA??? You Republicans have the blood of this group of the same soldiers who have already risked their lives, lost their lives, lost their limbs, lost their minds, commit suicide at an alarming rate, on your Souls, supporting a selfish man who PROMISED to end the horror of Iraq and Afghanistan, to bring the troops HOME. Not to send them back to the Iran War, Trumps War, to prove “That he ALWAYS WINS”. And 40% of people living in America THINK HE’s GOD! What is wrong with you Sheeple?? 🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑 Think.

awteam2000

People are saying: “The moment we all feared is likely upon us.

An unstable President in way over his head, panicking, with all his experienced advisers having quit, and only the sycophantic amateurs remaining.”

- Assassinating foreign leaders, announcing plans to bomb civilians and cultural sites.

- Iranian people were turning on regime, now marching in millions to mourn Soleimani and rail against US.

- Iraqi parliament votes to expel US military, degrading the war on terror and deepening Iranian influence. Beyond Soleimani’s wildest dreams.

An unmitigated disaster may be upon use.

matts853

Absolutely correct. As an aside, should Trump ever order the indiscriminate destruction of cultural sites, how many commanders will refuse his order because it’s illegal/immoral? Imagine that. The US military flat out saying no to a president. He’ll probably try to execute them. And I hope someone on the Republican Party will find the guts to remove him based on unfitness. This guy is sure testing the limits of our Republic.

It looks like both sides of this argument are just talking at each other yet again below, hurling political slurs without actually seeing a copy of the intelligence briefs. Therefore, neither side knows exactly what was happening, now do they? For the supporters, this was no low-level guy. He was a high-ranking general in the Iranian military, and any actions against him would incur a high price against the US and its citizens from either Iran directly, or through its network of proxys. That was a given. To the detractors, let’s not forget that he was the head of the Quds Force a division primarily responsible for extraterritorial military and clandestine operations. He was instrumental in the deaths of Americans and intelligence indicated that he was in Iraq to plan on more attacks against Americans. Read his bio on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qasem_Soleimani. What is not mentioned in many stories is that he was not the only one killed in the strike. Also in the car was Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who was responsible for car bombing the US Embassy in Kuwait, among many other attacks against Americans. Excerpts from the stories from CNN (hardly a Trump supporter) are below, with links to the complete stories.

“Some information has surfaced.

A source briefed on the latest intelligence told CNN that before the strike, specific information showed Iranian surface to air missiles and other military weaponry that the US had been watching, were moving in on at least two US air bases, as well as US embassies in the region.

Additionally, the source said that the situation was different because the US had advanced notice of his plans to kill Americans and that the previous reason not to kill him has gone away -- fear that it could cause the IRGC to specifically target Americans.

O'Brien made the case Friday that the strike was prompted by intelligence related to Soleimani's movements coupled with ongoing attacks that he was planning against US diplomats and military personnel.

"Soleimani was in the Middle East, in Iraq, and traveling around the Middle East. He had just come from Damascus, where he was planning attacks on American soldiers, airmen, Marines, sailors, and against our diplomats. “

https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/04/politics/trump-iran-soleimani-strike-concerns/index.html

We have been in an undeclared war with Iran since 1979

https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/05/opinions/us-iran-history-ware-intl/index.html

With all of this information, what would have happened if the US ignored the actionable intelligence, and another Khobar Towers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khobar_Towers_bombing), happened? Would the detractors then blame the President for not taking these guys out? Like I said, let’s wait for the official reports before throwing mud at each other, which, in the end gets us nowhere.

awteam2000

let’s wait for the official reports before throwing mud at each other”

Sound like, Trump needs to get his butt in gear immediately . He needs to have a primetime national explanation now - not a ‘carnival show’ but a presidential audience, with a clear statement on his actions and why. With questions and honest answers. Leave the smears, name calling and lies in Mar-a-Lago.

- What was the the eminent threat

- Strategy going forward

- If there’s no escalation, why should all Americans leave and why send 3,500 troops in ‘harms way’

- Why did Iraq vote to expel all American troops

- Why is Pompeo in an emergency meeting with Saudi envoy

- Why all the tweet threats about attacks of Iran historical cultural sites and sanctions against our ally, Iraq

- What can we expect in human losses and treasure

- Was this a distraction to your impeachment

- Was it worth tearing up the Iran nuclear agreement and why, what will replace it

And who are our allies in this fight?

gabrielshorn2013

Thanks for the response aw. I'll note that you didn't answer the last question. You're clearly in the detractor camp. What's your opinion? Is he damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't?

matts853

Like you said, it depends on the facts and how transparent Trump is. If he can prove the urgency he’s claiming then hopefully our allies will join us and we keep up pressure. If not, then he made a colossal miscalculation and Americans will die unnecessarily.

awteam2000

If a like ‘Khobar Towers’ event was eminent, Trump should just say so... immediately, and simply show the evidence. Give specifics. If he doesn’t show the evidence ‘yesterday’, it looks like he a made up the story after the fact. He has a history, a long history, I say ‘euphemistically’ “saying things he just made up”. Like a used car salesmen (No offense to ‘used car salesman 👨‍💼 but a perception salesmen have to overcome’.) Don’t you think he knows he lacks credibility? I’m rooting Trump isn’t totally inept. Aren’t you?

I find it sad that every tweet, comment, every act, every judgement has to be defended, lacking credibility around the world. No one believes he is telling the truth. NO-ONE! Even your comment is doubting. Right?

dtwigg

People that state that Soleimani murdered Americans conveniently forget that U.S. Presidents kill civilians, not just combatants and terrorists, in the Middle East on a fairly regular basis.

timothygaydos

Frederick's DNC pretty lame and really quite embarrassing especially praising Raskin - really the man is out of touch and lacking facts... there is no there - there! The DNC and some former government officials should be wondering what AG Barr and SP Durham are finding in the criminal investigation... the impeachment was such a fraud and sham to say the least. Nancy, Jerry, and Adam are the 3 stooges and I am sure Cummings is looking in from his final resting place saying thank God I am not there to be part of this fiasco... the ship is sinking fast!

Dwasserba

A public thank you because things have calmed down so much since the impeachment. I'm Independent. Both parties annoy me.

Similar to “Benghazi”, 3 Americans where massacred last night by a terrorist group at a US military base in Kenya. What was Trump’s response? Has Pompeo acted? I haven’t heard.

matts853

I hadn’t heard that but just read about it. Is this the beginning of Iran’s retaliation via proxy? Of course we know this president didn’t think his decision through, so all we can do is sit back and wait to get attacked as hoc. Brilliant strategy from the mentally unfit CIC.

BunnyLou

No, Al Shabab are sunni arabs where as Iran is shiite sponsoring shiite arabs. Really your ignorance is showing.

Trump laid down the gauntlet in asassinating the Iran guy, so if he’s going to be consistent with his new foreign policy, he must take out an Al Shabab leader. Or maybe the president of Kenya. Oh man, we’re on the path to all out war in the Middle East and beyond. But I bet Trump will lie down and expose his belly to the bad guys rather than fight tit for tat. Either way, he assasinated his chances for re-election. Happy 2020!

DickD

We have POTUS that is trying to save his 2020 election by getting the U.S. into another mid east war. Now there's likely to be more killing, all caused by the draft dodger, Donald Trump.

bosco

So we should just ignore an attack on a US embassy like Obama did in Bengazi? So we should just ignore an opportunity to take out a terrorist commander behind the attack on the embassy and many other attacks on US servicemen and women? Maybe we should just bow to the Iranians and give them another 1.5 billion in cash on a pallet and hope they do the right thing.

awteam2000

“Benghazi”?

Maybe the Trump kids should enlist and join up with the 5 thousand troops in harms way?

Maybe if we escalate the confrontation enough we won’t even need to leave home to be in the battle.

BunnyLou

Ridiculous!

awteam2000

“Benghazi”, ”Benghazi“, “Benghazi” 🙇‍♂️

There was an ‘eminent threat’?

With a history of lying, Trump has no credibility. He needs to have a national, on the air, ‘questions and answers’ to explain the situation. No bull🤬! He needs to explain why the threat was so eminent that he couldn’t avoid it without escalating the war, sending more troops, creating more tensions?... What should we expect in losses? 100’s of American service men and women... Should Americans send their children to war without an understanding, an explanation? What’s the end game? What’s the payoff for the sacrifice?

We know what the eminent threat is now, don’t worry 😉.

BunnyLou

Duh, the USA was attacked. The embassy is an extension of the USA. USA are not the aggressors here. Stop being so inaccurate and become informed.

matts853

First, Trump needs to show proof we were in eminent danger from Sol. The assumption that he’s lying about it is a safe one. IF he’s lying, then this can be viewed only as a personal retaliation to Iran tweeting a couple days before that Trump “could do nothing” about what happened in Iraq. So I’m betting he did a knee jerk overreaction and took out a guy above his pay grade rather than a bunch of slimy low level terrorists that are disposable combatants even to Iran and no one over there, save for a cousin or 2, would care about. But instead, Trump took out a big deal and the Iranians that were protesting against their government a month ago, are now gnashing their collective teeth against us in solidarity with their supreme leader. Not a good outcome.

Now, if Trump can prove he had a legitimate cause to take out a high level guy as the only option to thwart an attack, then he needs to do that ASAP. Otherwise, he’s just created more instability in the world and more consternation from our allies who will be even more reluctant to partner with Trump as this escalates. He could very well have left us high and dry in war with no possible way to win unconditionally like in the old days when force on force superiority ruled the day. Even if we obliterate the Iranian army, it will only create a vacuum for another radical state to fight us another day. Winnable Peace in the Middle East is impossible, you can only hope to suppress the violence. I think Trump unnecessarily eascalted it.

BunnyLou

Nice cut and paste job, to bad it couldn’t be further from the truth. The democrat party has shown its true colors.

DickD

Biden received student draft deferments during this period, at the peak of the Vietnam War, and in 1968, he was reclassified by the Selective Service System as not available for service due to having had asthma as a teenager.

This is just one. It is hard to find information how Schumer, or Ried or Hoyer avoided the draft but they did. Bernie tried to be a conscientious objector but was too old when his number was drawn.

It seems the only candidate you can herald is Warren with her famed tomahawk

DickD

https://www.teenvogue.com/story/donald-trump-dodged-the-draft-5-times When I look at President Donald Trump, I see a pot-bellied, 71-year-old man with a doughy frame. But in 1968, when he was a 22-year-old University of Pennsylvania graduate, Trump was a tall, fit athlete who played football, tennis, and golf. His age and clean medical history qualified Trump as a perfect candidate for the draft to serve in the United States Army and fight in the Vietnam War, but he avoided combat after receiving a 1-Y medical deferment, which he has said was due to "bone spurs in his heels." More than half a million American men were stationed in Vietnam by the end of that year, which was the bloodiest 12 months of the conflict. On the day of Trump's graduation from the University of Pennsylvania, 40 Americans were killed in Vietnam, according to The New York Times." https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/donald-trump-draft-dodger-tammy-duckworth-criticism-war-veteran-north-korea-kim-jong-un-national-a8171536.html " .... a Senate-floor speech Saturday, Senator Tammy Duckworth (Democrat-Illinois), blasted President Donald Trump as a “five-deferment draft dodger” and accused him of trying to bait North Korea into a war, putting both the military and the national security of the United States at risk."   http://nymag.com/intelligencer/2019/06/were-now-paying-off-trumps-vietnam-draft-dodger-debt.html It’s little secret by now that Trump faked a disability to stay out of the Vietnam War, but he tried to rewrite history after Morgan asked him if he would have liked to serve. “I would not have minded that at all; I would have been honored,” he said.“I think I make up for it now,” he addedhttps://www.snopes.com/news/2016/08/02/donald-trumps-draft-deferments/

The Democrats will regret this decision. Making it acceptable to impeach the President of the United States based upon the fact that you are power hungry do not like him is atrocious. What I would like an explanation for is why the Frederick County Democrats are comparing Republicans to Nazis. Why was statement posted on the Frederick Democratic Facebook page? Please provide a full explanation so we may impeach you. Oh wait, President Trump was not allowed to provide a full explanation or defend himself at all. Therefore, you are impeached!

DickD

Wasn't given a chance to defend himself? It was Trump that refuses to testify and ordered all the rest around him not to testify.

bosco

Didn't Obama do the same thing with several House inquiries and it was eventually settled in court? Why is it now OK for the House to cite and convict contempt of Congress without the Judicial branch hearing and settling the case. What's the rush?

awteam2000

Trump has been impeached. That boat 🚣‍♂️ has sailed.

Obama never refused to ignore ALL subpoenas, refuse to turn over ALL documents, not to cooperate at ALL with Congress and HIS ACTIONS as president were never under investigation. Matter of fact. in 8 years, no one in the Obama’s administration was ever indicted for anything, ZERO! Whereas, in less then 3 years the Trump administration has regurgitated indictments , convictions and guilty pleas for more than 34 of his mobsters, with more to come.

Ms. Carter,

It is easy to see why the Democrats lost the White House and will most likely lose the House in 2020. From the scandals of the past election such as rigging the debates, rigging your own party's nomination process, to the two faces of HRC and her perverted staff. Or the hiring of a foreign intelligence officer to "find dirt" on a Presidential candidate using Russian and Russian/Ukrainian contacts. Then manufacturing false claims and presenting them to the secret courts in attempt to overthrow an elected President. High crimes?? Yes the Democrats do know what high crimes are. Such as "quid pro Joe."

To many in the 6th district our representatives are the perversion to Ben Franklin's Republic. Men with no ties to the real Sixth District bought and paid for by the "Friends of Bill" and organizations like the Teacher's Union. American's are not as dumb as you presume which is why they vote to protect our country from your current party.

threecents

User, it is surprising that so many of Trump's people end up getting indicted, fired, or quitting. Trump himself was recently found guilty of misusing charity funds, but for some reason that got very little coverage - maybe it has gotten old because Trump has been sued thousands of times.
