I drive past the water treatment plant on the east side of Frederick with regularity, and in the last few weeks have observed a very hazardous situation at the sharp turn there since the Aldi distribution center was built on Gas House Pike. We have seen an increase in tractor-trailer traffic on that stretch of road.
Over a few days I observed a tractor-trailer in both directions negotiate the sharp turn. From both directions, the only way a tractor-trailer can negotiate it is to immediately cross over and occupy both lanes of the road.
With the very short sightline on that turn, it is highly possible that the average driver in either direction might find him or herself suddenly pointed directly toward the front of a tractor-trailer driving toward them with less than two seconds to impact and no way to avoid it. This section of roadway screams out for a “no trucks over 5 tons” sign going from Schifferstadt Boulevard to Gas House Pike. I hope it happens soon.
