This morning, I am moved to write a request to all citizens who may read this letter. Please STOP donating to candidates, affiliated political parties, both Democratic and Republican, and especially anyone with two lips saying they are running for office.

First, all this money, millions (perhaps billions) of dollars are being used for campaigning, advertising and political whitewash when money is really needed right here in our state, in our county, in our towns to feed the hungry, transport the sick, house the homeless, educate our children, take care of our animals and pets. None of that happens when our dollars go to candidates, campaigns, PACS and political party headquarters.

Doesn’t it make you angry to see Candidate X is spending $100 million, Candidate Y has raised $40 million, Candidate Z $60 million and you know it is not going to any good deed, but only to see their faces, hear their slurs and promises, and give more fodder to the talking heads on television and radio? I have voted in every election since I was eligible to vote at 21 years old. I usually vote for the candidates I think will do the best job based on their resume. Isn’t that how employers choose their new hires? The only way to put an end to this merry-go-round of waste is to stop contributing to it.

Join me by pledging that political donation to your favorite local charities. That money will be utilized here and provide instant gratification to those who really need the money.

Leslie. Your thoughts are noble, but as the Supreme Court ruled businesses are recognized as single citizens and I believe they are the major contributors to what has become our corrupt political system. Unfortunately this will not change with the two party control system we have and I fear it will take another revolution to correct it.

vicdavy

Leslie,I understand your disappointment in our political system, but until we overturn Citizens United and reform campaign financing the system will continue to be corrupt.
Bernie 2016!

DickD

Leslie, you do realize most campaign money comes from businesses, not individuals, don't you? The amount of money given by individuals is so small that it is hardly relevant and if you think those that do contribute will stop, you are wrong, they do it for a reason, same as corporations do.

Instant gratification you say , and I will tell you that the citizen taxpayers are already paying PLENTY, just think about $260 Billion annually to support 12 million illegals(GAO report released earlier last year that the socialist media saw fit NOT to report on) 50 Million more on food stamps, a doubling of those on permanent disability in the first term of obama....and thats just for starters

DeDeuceCoupe32

12 million illegals? The more the merrier and Obama was deporting 400,000 a year? Whats up with that, Obama haters? Liberals are a fickle bunch now aren't they.

DickD

Not sure about your figures, jersey, but if George Bush hadn't run the country into the ground with two wars and tax cuts at the same time, most of this would not be necessary.

teapartier

But in Dicks case G. W. Bush will be blamed if the sun doesn't come up tomorrow!

DickD

And if the terrorists get a nuclear weapon, that will be the case.

teapartier

No, the sun will still come up, we might not be around to see it. Russia, China,India, Pakistan and N. Korea have had nukes for sometime now, Wonder if the terrorist know that?

vicdavy

tea,it must be terrible to be in fear. I went thru the 50s and 60s civil defense drills when the possibility was much greater and we're all still here.MAD saved us and will continue to do so.

teapartier

No fear hear Vic, I also went through the 50's and 60's, I was just pointing out to Dick that GWB can't be blamed for everything that's wrong in today's world. If you do, then aren't you the ones that live in Fear?

vicdavy

The World has always had problems, but GWB made things worse! Obama is trying to correct it,with no help from the warmongers on the Right. He has learned the lessons of history. I'm optimistic as I have always been, I'm just impatient to see the World move past old paradigm. I have been speaking of these same issues since I was a young man and after Vietnam it became even clearer that America, with all our virtues, was ultimately making the same mistakes as other empires. I have no fear because I know life is eternal, but not based on Religious beliefs but on Spiritual Experience.

See you there, Just waiting on the call from "above"!

DickD

Vic and tea, I will be waiting for you at the "Pearly Gates", you kids have a good time in the meanwhile. [lol]

I believe you are missing the point. You need to direct your anger more towards Congress. They are the ones that hand out the money. In the case of the illegals,Food stamps and disability if the President feels the need to increase funding, he needs to go to congress. my opinion is that congress and even our local elected officials fail miserably in their number 1 priority , to be good stewards of our tax dollars and reach a balance budget.. I am no fan of the President but he is not the only one to blame.

Tanstaafl

Most of the Budget goes to defense. Why on earth are we spending over $1 Billion for a fighter jet? Why are we backing that helps finance short-term profiteering by
any/Wall Street? Why are we formenting unrest in developing countries? Why does Congress ignore American needs, but rushes to help Goldman-Sachs and all their buddies? I am old enuf to remember when nothing like food stamps existed and families just starved. Especially Vets' and serving soldiers. Disabled children, like my daughter, had no medical help, but sent away to dissapper. Our roads, bridges,
and infrastructure can be upgraded, providing jobs, as Roosevelt did last time.
Our cheaply bought Congress has no obligation to American citizens, voters or not.

County resdents not happy with jan gardeners support of using md tax payer dollars for the proposed downtown conference center.

Jan is on course for a one term county executive.

I'll see your [thumbup] and raise you one [thumbup].

The whole scheme of using taxpayer money (no matter what you call it, TIF, bonds, Stadium Authority, grants) to enrich the Plamondon$ and the Randall$ is wrong. If the various levels of goverment are so flush with our tax dollars that they can be used to prop up a private hotel business plan for the Plamindon$ and the Randall$, perhaps some tax cuts and new politicians are in order.

DickD

Yes, but if we have all that cash to throw away, why are we not getting the State and local funds to build the new schools we need? The Randalls and the Plamondons do not need our money, the schools do.

DeDeuceCoupe32

Why would taxpayers invest into "citizens" who are here illegally and not Plamondon or the Randall family. I'm not a gambling man, but i'll put my money on the later any day.

Yes

DickD

I will bet you she is not! Jan will do the right thing, count on it.

KellyAlzan

A story in the FNP a few weeks ago stated that Jan is in full support of the conference center logistics

DickD

And you don't think Jan is capable of changing her mind?

KellyAlzan

Dick - your comments are not relevant to facts lately. You keep trying to rewrite facts.

Last I read - Jan supported the conference center as proposed.

That's the exact same thing Balane did with the bridge to nowhere.

Until Jan declares her opinion / support differently - I'm left with no choice but to judge her on what she has provided me with to judge her.
