I just read of the controversy among county council members regarding Frederick County’s landfill policy; and that representatives Shreve and Delauter would like this issue vetted in public meetings.

I want to point out that the county hosted six public meetings throughout the county over the last year related to what to do with waste in Frederick County.

A high value was placed on efforts to increase recycling, reuse... and decrease the quantity of waste landfilled, by the public. The trash company indicated they have a contract to remove surplus government furniture.

Perhaps this hauler, or another local hauler, may want to pursue an addition to their business of taking items like surplus furniture, and connecting them to a resource that collects surplus furniture for repair, reuse and resale.

Decreasing waste and reusing materials is exactly the point of Zero Waste. The public has made it clear it wants to move in this direction regarding waste, and the county has indicated it intends to go in this direction. Expanding a business may make more sense in the long run, than throwing money away in a lawsuit.

Good Point about Zero Waste. While we do not want waste from other counties taking up our precious landfill space, we do need to be aware the most of the waste picked up by J&J and others is shipped off to a Virginia landfill or two.

Getting serious about zero waste is not a bad thing.

Tweedledee and Tweedledum have no thoughts about making the County livable. All they see is making the County into a short term profit center that will last about to about the time they are gone.

If Kirby and Billy have problems, let them put up legislation to be discussed, same as anyone else on the Council already do.

If they are collecting trash from outside the county for the express purpose of disposing of it in the landfill then it is probably against county law. It is certainly against the spirit of the law. So stop with the bad comparisons.
