Most days I walk to work in downtown Frederick. I have always loved the city of Frederick and plan to call it home for a very long time.

I have only one request of my elected officials and citizens: Make it shine, make it sparkle before the next big taxpayer-funded idea like a hotel and conference center. Most days there is trash on the sidewalks, cigarette butts everywhere, and grass and weeds growing through the sidewalks.

Current residents and visitors like a clean city as well as future residents and visitors. Some of this is from the vibrant night life we have, but that doesn’t mean we can’t pick up after ourselves and have pride.

Also, residents and visitors like to feel safe and not always harassed for spare change. More police presence on foot and bikes would be welcomed by all. Pay them what is needed if that is what it takes. The next decade will be very interesting in the city, as some feel it is not headed with the same dedication, commitment and enthusiasm as in the past.

Filled storefronts, a clean and safe city not just on three or four square blocks, would be appreciated by many. I’ll do my part and pick up trash when I can, but it has to be a team effort. One step doesn’t seem like a lot, but the little things add up to big things. It will be contagious in all parts of the city, not just downtown.

Savannah had signs posted warning that Savannah does not permit panhandling and persons doing so can be fined. Saw apparent homeless people napping on benches day and late into the evening. Did not see one panhandler in 4 days and was not approached.

I think he's right. But I think the sparkle should come from the tenants. Why don't the businesses care about what the store front looks like. At the very least, Market St should be taken care of. That's the thing that most people see when they tell me that they love downtown. It's not the side streets because most of those are no where near the quality of Market. How could anyone disagree with cleaning things up?

Dwasserba

Love the side streets.

Blaine you and your cohorts killed our County. Now you want to take on Frederick City. I guess you do not understand the words, "go away!"

FrederickFan

Bye bye Blaine. We don't want you ever in leadership again but you can pick up the litter and take out the trash!

zenstone2112

TBT from the FNP archives...that time Blaine had to cross county lines to get a little "shine and sparkle." https://www.fredericknewspost.com/news/crime_and_justice/courts/former-frederick-county-commissioner-guilty-in-prostitution-case-says-he/article_5e1b68a9-9071-54cb-a84e-c55180a509d3.html#comments

Who wrote this for you? You’re certainly not the author 😜

Hi Blaine. Current and future residents like their children in schools that aren't grossly over capacity. They like safe, uncongested roads so they can spend more time with family than with Siri. They like lower taxes and reasonable County budgets. They like clean streams. You made sure NONE of that will be possible for the foreseeable future. Bravo! Too bad getting in bed with the developers ended up not being worth it for you after all. That’s Karma for you. Best, Matt Seubert

Matt - my sentiments exactly. Dealing with the mess daily and into the future.

matts853

Yep. He left lots of messes that we can’t fix due to his dastardly DRRAs. He and his fellow frat boys abused their power. It’s really sickening.

Trash knows trash, so 'pick up [yourself] when [you] can.'

Something seems wrong here. I am actually agreeing with Blaine. Will the Lion and Lamb lie together? Is theis the end of time? I hope not.

Blueline

Gary - be the master of your own destiny.

So, Blaine lives back in Frederick, does he plan on running for Mayor? He just thinks we are going to forget all of the atrocious things he has done in the past, so he can run for CE in the future. If he is reelected, we will deserve all of his Trump shenanigans.

It is easy to agree with, because it is an empty shell of vague pleasantries. It is not like he has anything substantive to say, or anything to criticize that he is not ultimately responsible for himself.

“...as some feel...”

Reminds me of that other fellow who says “a lot of people have told me” or “many people are saying”.

gary4books

And I think "How many?" or "Who?"

Go away, Blaine, far, far away. You promised that we would not hear from you for 10 years.

Dwasserba

Time's almost up.

Ahhhh, good old Blaine. His BOCC election in 2010 presaged Trump's 2016 election. Both cultivated fringe media followings (Blaine's was on WFMD), both appealed to the same audience, both had apologists and hard core supporters, but ultimately made polite people cringe. Four years later, it was the polite people who collectively said, "I don't need four more years of this." And so, in 2014, we voted for Jan, and now we're proud of our county again. In early 2017, when Trump was just beginning to make polite Americans cringe, I wrote this limerick predicting what would happen in 2020. Given the national embarrassment that Trump has made of himself, I don't think that polite people need four years of him either. Frederick county can be pretty smug in the face of Trump. We've been mugged before. Our county's allowed to be smug we know what it's like to get mugged Blaine's a study of Freud's Trump's the same on steroids and in four years we'll vote out the thug.

armillary

Ah well, the limerick got lost in the formatting, but it's the last five lines of my post. It begins at "Our county's allowed to be smug".

Thank you public-redux!

Blueline

Why don't you try a haiku?

public-redux

arm, google "HTML break"

Unfortunately, the HTML break code isn't working properly on the FNP site. It is giving a double line paragraph break instead of a single line "carriage return" break. I tried using HTML preset formatting but FNP won't accept that at all. So, use "break"
