The Associated Press article by Anne M. Peterson that was the lead column in Sunday’s News-Post sports section bordered on disgusting. In it, she praised Rapinoe as some kind of “good old girl” who was “just being herself.” The article says she is “brash and confident” and she is “a very experienced, eloquent person.”

Well, I’m 48 years older than Megan Rapinoe, and I’ll guarantee I am much more experienced. And I will tell you Megan Rapinoe is nothing more than a spoiled liberal who is convinced she is the center of the universe. No matter what her political views are or her “sexual orientation,” she is wrong to turn her back on her country and her flag. If she is so bitter and so bitter because things didn’t go her way politically, then don’t come back. Go to a country where people have no say about who controls the government.

Megan is a selfish egotist who thinks the world revolves around her. She is an ugly person by every definition of the word. Personally, I hope her team loses!

Wow! When I read this letter what hate speweth forth. She didn't play because she pulled a hamstring, plus she is more of an offensive player not very good on defense. So this gave a good opportunity for the other players to play and they shone just like she does. That is why you have first string and second string players just like any other sport. As far as political views they are allowed to voice it just like you and me. Yes, even at work but I can't coerce someone into doing something like voting for a particular candidate. That's wrong. Remember folks we are US citizens quit using the term Americans because it is disrespectful to other Americans in like South, Central and North Americas. We aren't great, we have a lot of blood and skeletons in our own closets too.

MD1756

Two words for Federal government employees... Hatch Act.

Moon otter

Talking private sector.

hayduke2

Yup - and who violates it? Ivanka, Jared, Kellyanne, Wilbur, etc. You know not of what you speak.

secpol1970

She put herself before the country. Despite a difference of opinion or who is in office you still go.

shiftless88

Why should you force that? Why is visiting the WH a duty to your country?

MD1756

It's only a game, who cares? I don't understand why so many people will spend so much to watch other people play games. Yes, I'll watch an occasional football game and sometimes a baseball game on TV, but only because it is free. I don't understand why any sports team is invited to the White House because they won a few games (in the case of football), or many games (in the case of baseball, basketball, etc). How about inviting the people who developed intermittent wipers or cruise control, or advanced cancer research, or cheap reliable removal of arsenic from drinking water, etc.?

threecents

What about the guy who invented Doritos?

Obadiah Plainsmen

It seems that the US soccer team read Mr. Morningstar LTE, ms Rapinoe has been benched. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7203587/Millions-watch-England-semi-final-clash-against-USA-Womens-World-Cup-Final.html

public-redux

And Press scored in the 10th minute.

Obadiah Plainsmen

She wasn't benched. Keep watching and keep us updated, if Rapinoe scores post it under "breaking news".

public-redux

It is a team sport. I’m rooting for the USA.

Obadiah Plainsmen

That's why she was benched, there is no"I" in team.

hayduke2

Make things up bro... Your article implies a benching in your mind = guess pulled hamstring doesn't match your thinking.

public-redux

There is an I in team. It’s just undetectable. Like gods.

Obadiah Plainsmen

Then you are a believer?

public-redux

As of a few months ago, I’m religious again. And I believe in facts, until new and better information shows them to be unfactual. At that point I, like any rational person, I change my beliefs. If you are referring to gods, I lack belief in any of the ones I’ve heard about. But of those, my favorite is the god of Rascal’s Dilemma. That is a god I could believe in, if only there some facts to suggest I should. Great game, eh? The word is that Rapinoe will be available for the final. Maybe it was all the thoughts and prayers. Or maybe it was the rest.

Moon otter

PR how about Loki a Nordic god. He was the trickster of the bunch.

public-redux

Some of Loki’s antics have been downright cruel. Not sadistic exactly but well beyond harmless fun. Loki can dish it out but can’t take it.

Obadiah Plainsmen

I'm sorry I meant to say you are a believer in the USA team. Anyway, since you said that you are religious again is there any ritual you are going to do before the Championship game and do you think Hermes already knows the outcome ?

public-redux

You have my forgiveness. I don’t know what you mean by “a believer in the USA team” so I can’t respond to that inquiry.

My religion doesn’t have a ritual for sportsball. As for Hermès, I wouldn’t all that surprised if they have some fashionable accessories ready to roll out no matter who wins.

llrowse

She’s injured.

thump1202

Don't ask why people who express views like this won't leave America. They are well fed, comfortable, and understand this sort of behavior would not be tolerated elsewhere.

public-redux

What do you imagine the Canadian authorities might do to them?

thump1202

Jordan Peterson rose to prominence when Canada was trying to outlaw speech they didn't like, so potentially jail them. Canadians are also very patriotic so there might be, oh, say a milk shaking incident involving cement where the authorities look aside.

public-redux

Peterson is Canadian so I don't understand that example. He isn't an American who went to Canada, is he?

thump1202

Canada does not recognize free speech. All you have to do is Google Canada hate speech arrest and you'll see as many cases as you want where people are jailed for saying things they can here. They also have a real immigration system so many Americans wouldn't qualify, especially loud ones who choose to be activists.

public-redux

What did Rapinoe say/do that would have been illegal in Canada? I'm referring here to your "views like this" comment.

If Canada won't let them in, then it really isn't a matter of their being well-fed and comfortable, right?

thump1202

She openly criticizes the country's leader and is a LGBT activist. Islam is against LGBT, anti Islam speech is illegal in Canada, she would be jailed if she argued her case. Let's open up the world a little. Criticizing the leadership and being a LGBT activist is grounds for death in many countries, but only Canada interests you right? If someone can't even get into Quebec then they ought to be mad at themselves instead of the country, their admissions are lax compared to the rest of Canada.

public-redux

“Islam is against LGBT, anti Islam speech is illegal in Canada, she would be jailed if she argued her case.” People jailed in Canada for talking in favor LGBTQ issues? Citation, please.

public-redux

“but only Canada interests you right?” Uh, no. Canada seems like the sort of place that might be of interest to someone who finds the US oppressive to “liberal” causes. Places that put people to death don’t seem like they would be of interest. (You really had to ask? Weird.)

hayduke2

Thump - you are reaching and have a strange thought process..

thump1202

Is it unreasonable to assume that a LGBT activist would criticize the killing of these people that is enforced law in Islam countries? That would be like a feminist activist railing against many of these countries for slavery and legal rape of women. Oh wait, you're right, these groups don't seem to care about these things, I stand corrected.

public-redux

It sounds like you are saying that you can’t document that LGBTQ folk are jailed in Canada for being anti-Islam when they speak in favor of LGBTQ concerns.

thump1202

I'm saying these activists are either ignorant, tacitly approve, or are wise enough not to poke the beast for fear of being eaten. But yes, for all intents and purposes your average leftie wouldn't have problems in Canada.

public-redux

So She openly criticizes the country's leader and is a LGBT activist. Islam is against LGBT, anti Islam speech is illegal in Canada, she would be jailed if she argued her case. was just something you made up?

thump1202

She has made public statements and done significant activism. As to the theoretical, I didn't research that specific case history I'm simply aware of the laws there and that they are enforced, I doubt much makes it to the news except media personalities, she would fall within that group. So as to whether that specific case exists, I don't know and I suspect it wouldn't make news unless someone with her celebrity did it.

llrowse

That’s because of Free Speech, one of our inalienable rights.

public-redux

The game against England is at 3:00 today. I won't be disappointed if Rapinoe scores a couple more goals.

thump1202

She's reportedly benched, so barring a substitution that won't be happening

public-redux

I won’t be disappointed in others score. Remember, it is “Team” USA. 2-2 right now.

public-redux

Oh, the second English goal was disallowed! 2-1, USA.

huskycats

By not respecting the anthem. I grew up in a time where people loved this country and now when they choose to not respect it, kneel during the anthem, spit on the flag etc. it's putting us on a very dark road to history. That's my definition of free speech which according to you, I'm entitled to.

threecents

Spitting on the flag would have been disrespectful. Kneeling during the anthem is definitely not being disrespectful.

rikkitikkitavvi

I disagree.

threecents

You disagree because the conservative media and Trump convinced you that quietly kneeling is disrespectful. By the way, thank you for not advocating my death or injury just because we disagree. Baby steps maybe, but it looks like you are making progress.

awteam2000

Husky, When was it when there weren’t protests against unjust establish behaviors? In the 50’s, 60’s, the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s? How old are you?

shiftless88

This LTE demonstrates the divide between what conservatives SAY they want (small government that does not interfere) and what they REALLY want (government to crack down on things THEY do not like). At least libertarians are consistent; conservatives speak with forked tongue.

"Go to a country where people have no say about who controls the government." We're getting there.

huskycats

Thanks Bernard, couldn't agree with you more. Disrespecting the country that gave you so much is very sad indeed.

hayduke2

How exactly did she disrespect her country?

shiftless88

hay; don't you know that anything you do that conservatives don't like is automatically labeled as "anti-American"! Oh, any news they don't like is called "fake"

awteam2000

Not wanting to have a “Big Mac” with Trump is not disrespecting the country 🤦‍♂️.

duffy5x

Speaking out on your beliefs is VERY American. Too bad you don't understand what being an true American patriot really means.

hayduke2

Funny, this letter writer fails to see the irony in his rant. He is doing exactly what he is accusing the young lady of doing. He may be 48 years older but he missed some important life lessons.

Thewheelone

Hayduke.... SCORES!!!!! [cool]

shiftless88

My oh my; this LTE brings to mind the bit about those living in glass houses

MD1756

Why does the FNP publish such LTEs? Again they seem to allow LTEs that don't seem to have to follow the rules of online commenting. The letter certainly violates the "Be Nice" rule. There are better ways to get ideas across without being nasty.

rikkitikkitavvi

There is but this country isn't quite there yet. We are on that slope though.

threecents

First off, if you want America's team to lose, then what does that say about you? Second, I personally don't care about a soccer players' politics and don't know why they concern people like the letter writer. That said, a soccer player, like all Americans, should stand up for what she thinks is right. What better way to show American values?

rikkitikkitavvi

By honoring Flag AND country.

public-redux

You seem to be suggesting that lying is a good way to show American values.

public-redux

If you don’t stop yawning, you’ll lose the discussion you begged me to have.

threecents

She didn't do anything to the flag. She didn't yell at it, spit on it, throw dirt on it, stab it with a lance, or even advocate that a firing squad shoot it. You are brainwashed if you think that quietly kneeling is disrespecting flag or country.

phydeaux994

r, you cannot be a Patriot and claim you honor Flag and Country when you support a wannabe Dictator who despises every precept and principle America was built on.

Moon otter

Last time I checked I live in the United States and I am a US citizen. South America, Central America and North America are Americans. Quit using that term. It's US values whatever they maybe.

Jleftwich

Somehow I think we will all manage just fine if an athlete chooses not to visit the White House.

thump1202

[thumbup][thumbup][thumbup] tabloid nonsense that has zero net effect on anyone's life and buries important issues.

llrowse

Freedom of Speech is one of our inalienable rights. It’s beautiful, yet it can be ugly, and messy. It infuriates me when people disrespect the Flag, under the protection of Freedom of Speech. However, it is permitted. Meghan Rapinoe is exercising her Rights. However, this would not have become an issue, had the President not lowered himself to be involved in this situation. He should hold himself above. No other President has lowered himself to such tussles. The big picture, the nation, world issues should be his focus. Meghan Rapinoe exercised her Freedom of Speech, just as millions of Americans do daily - ugly, messy beautiful.

Thewheelone

I agree with you llrowse. Had not the president called attention to it, I doubt anyone would have even noticed. He really should be paying more attention and focus on the big picture.

3fingeredWU

I agree with Bernard!! It is a team effort and should be played as a team - not one person doing her own thing. If she can't play as a team and visit the Whitehouse if the team wins - then take her off the team. Playing politics is not the sport she is there for!

marinick1

[thumbup][thumbup]

butterflygirl

Take her off the team because she is exercising her right to free speech guaranteed by the Constitution? The soccer federation has no problem with her. Really???? Why do people feel sports figures and entertainers have no rights to speak about what they believe? The part that really makes me angry is when people say to leave the country if they believe differently than you. The only person who made a big deal of this is 45. He is playing to his base.

rikkitikkitavvi

Do not bring your political views to your work place. If you do you should rightfully and justifiably be fired.

shiftless88

You mean like Kellyanne Conway?

hayduke2

rikki - then we would be rid of the president, Kellyanne, Ivanka, Jared, etc. As well as the majority of the workforce in this country. Get real. PS - I'm pretty sure you would also be unemployed.

llrowse

Everybody has the right to free speech. Communists, and Banana Republics punish Freedom of Speech, and thought in such ways. I suggest you study up on how Hitler used such tactics in his rise to power. Is this the America you want? This is not the America we have, and not the one I want. Have you never shared your political view at work? Politics exist at town, city, county, state, National, and international levels? Just wondering.

threecents

People should not be forced or coerced into standing for the national anthem at work or anywhere in a free country. As long as they are not disturbing anyone, it is their business. Quietly kneeling is not disturbing anyone.

public-redux

Doncha know that coerced expressions of patriotism are the best kinds of patriotism?

butterflygirl

Her “employer “ has no problem with her using her right to freedom of speech. Why should you ?

rikkitikkitavvi

She's sitting anyway. Glad to hear it.[beam]

USA. USA. USA. what’s the matter with you?

public-redux

Her coach deemed it best not to play her with a hamstring injury. Would you have done differently?
