I am truly disappointed in your front-page article and picture of Blaine Young (“Young charged in sex sting,” Thursday’s edition). I expect to see this type of article in the National Enquirer or Star magazines. I would rather see the police target drug dealers, corruption and real crimes. Shame on you, Frederick News-Post, for being petty, vindictive and reporting this in such a crude manner.

Put the blame on Blaine boys, put the blame on Blaine.

Beatrice1

I can assure you that anyone in this county who is well known would have been reported in the same manner. When anyone is in the public eye they take the risk of having all their actions placed under a microscope. The FNP didn't single Blaine out, he made a huge mistake and got caught.

Fredmd21704

"real crimes"... uh yeah. PS did you write the whiny same letter to every news outlet in the state of Maryland and DC because every one of them reported this story.

frederickdad

Joanna... I bet you hold BY up as some sort of role model for your grandkids? Hey I know.... why don't you start your own paper and then you get to determine what is newsworthy!

dbjanda1

Joanna, Check the story in mid-90's News Post article about the black book incident concerning the 'black book'....It involved a madam with lists of local peckers and a prostitution ring....Blame Young and Jim Grimes were mentioned that eventually prevented them from running for re-election....Somehow A tiger's stripes don't change no matter what county they get caught in....It's NOT a 'victimless crime' either just ask his kids !!!!!......Me

I've been idly wondering all day long how the FNP might have reported this story in a way that the LTE author would have found tasteful rather than crude.

The best I've come up with -- and I don't think it would have passed her muster -- was something like "Blaine Young hiked the Appalachian Trail last February in Anne Arundel County."

FrederickFan

This is the kind of LTE that makes me recoil in horror.

First, great job FNP on your outstanding coverage of the latest (it certainly won't be the last) disgusting behavior from Blaine "Likes It Rough" Young.

I can understand that the letter writer might be hurt. Along with tens of thousands of other people who voted for this walking car crash, perhaps more than once, she should have known better following several scandals of similar filth. I might have been embarrassed to publish my name under such a pathetic letter. At the very least, it is the FNP's job to protect Frederick County against this kind of criminal behavior, particularly if the main character is someone who was once a powerful leader in our community.

Young's values could not be any farther from the values cherished by most good people in Frederick County. Thank you FNP for upholding the values of our community.

WangoTango

Whoa there - who is that McKay?!

b1sellers

Curious Steve, is your family Scottish? If so from what part? My McKay family is from Dunoon/Glasgow.

DickD

Okay, Joanna, why are you so concerned about Blaine? He was the head of Frederick County, it is news, why shouldn't they put it in the newspaper and it much better front page news than much of what they put on the front page. Of course, this should prevent Blaine's comeback and he will probably lose his current girl friend. Most likely he will go back to living with his Step Mother and Father.

public-redux

FWIW, I thought the FNP paper edition went easy on him by using a flattering photo rather than the mug shot. Had that been my decision, it would have been the mug shot.

b1sellers

I agree public.

I can't imagine why a guy would meet a complete stranger and sex-trade worker in a revolving door hotel room. And pay her $ to get busy. And rush through it in 20 minutes. Good God, man! You have to be rock-bottom

Dwasserba

Huh. I thought the photo was good.

Quisling

Joanna Mundschenk I disagree with you but I respect the fact you are willing to share your ignorance with the readers of the FNP. Would you have the same opinion about privacy if someone you dissaproved of paid for sex?

matts853

Enquirer and star are gossip outlets that are short on facts and long on fiction. This story is real life. No comparison.

b1sellers

Exactly matt

trwz

Blaine's "real life" stories should have been posted prior to 2010.

olefool

Oh well.... I guess B'lame won't be going to backpage.com to get his romantic dates anymore. I read somewhere that there are quite a few (ahem) social diseases floating around there too. Looks like he could be spreading more than just his usual BS around.

Charles_Nelson_Reilly

I'm no fan of Blaine's politics, but sort of agree with the writer. I do feel bad for his family and hope he gets his affairs in order. The FNP does not like Blaine and it shows.

Dwasserba

It was over quickly. If they hadn't covered it, they'd have been accused of protecting a columnist. What to do what to do. Report the facts. They can't help if they're bleeah

WangoTango

[thumbup] Yep--gave him above-the-fold-front-page-lead story

BlueDawn666

The FNP doesn't like Blaine..you can't be serious? The FNP LOVES HIM...I need to remind you how they refused to investigate any of his wrongdoings while he was in office, and really didn't ever call him out on anything he did EVER. Had they done their job..Billy nor Kirby would have been reelected. The FNP has been in bed with the Young family for so long...

b1sellers

Agree BD.

Charles,
The FNP didn't do this to Blaine. Blaine did this to himself. Maybe his family should do a better job in monitoring his computer usage for Internet sexual activity.

threecents

You hope "he gets his affairs in order"? How many does he have?

MAVRICKinc7

The FNP loves Blaine Young. It's simple arithmetic. The name alone sells papers. His criminal activities are just the icing on the cake. The Young DYNASTY is the FNP's bread and butter and has been for decades.

Tigerzord

WOW! Just WOW!

bmclearen

Perhaps Blaine was simply holding an interview for dancers at a party he may be giving, or perhaps he was simply testing how effective the anti-prostitution efforts have been in various Maryland counties. If the public and the Young families think this bust was revealing, wait until his "activities" while in office in the county are revealed.

WangoTango

Blaine's thinking thanks a lot for writing the LTE and keeping the story alive! LOL

Dwasserba

Exactly

Nicki

What an idiotic LTE!

richardlyons

[thumbup]

Jleftwich

So now prostitution is not a "real crime". I've heard this repeated by several of Blaine's supporters and so-called friends, from whom he is constantly getting a free pass.

b1sellers

It is a crime and it is not a victimless one either. And if it had been anyone they didn't like they would would be screaming from the rooftops if the paper didn't cover it.

threecents

If it was the Enquirer they would have framed his picture like a mug shot. This is big news. That man was the most powerful person in the county!

bosco

Key word there is "was".

olefool

Every story makes some people happy while at the same time it makes others intensely angry...

BlueDawn666

I am amazed how many women have crushes on Blaine, with that being said, why didn't he just hook-up in Frederick County? Seems like there were plenty of opportunities for him here?

KellyAlzan

It's about the power. You have more control when u pay.

Balane is no longer self employed. No longer in government. He lusts power and control

BlueDawn666

Oh I understand why he what he did, it had nothing to do with feelings or emotions just power and control. His lust for power turned his brain into mush..had he thought this through..... Doubt he will ever be powerful and in control ever again.

BstD59

In regard to the FNP they were simply doing their job by reporting yet another criminal act by a local politician, and they did so without comment or slant. In fairness, they printed your letter, also without comment or slant, so I'll do it for them....you can not defend the indefensible. Young is a sleezy, tarnished, lowlife and all the apologies in the world are not going to change him, and deflecting the blame to the FNP just makes you look foolish.

MCEDDE21

Obviously, Ms. Mundschenk just fell off the turnip truck. She has left herself open to mountains of ridicule--quite a temptation for some, but easily straying into violations of FNP comment rules about lewd, vulgar, and sexually-oriented language.

Nevertheless, Mundschenk is not public enemy number one, either. Hopefully, she will learn from mild comments, such as yours, that she should refrain from defending the B-person in the future. That's a job for Feral.

Tigerzord

Corruption? You don't say....

armillary

Those of us who are Ron Young, Karen Lewis Young and Brad Young supporters are disappointed by the filth that the Young family name has been dragged through recently. But that's not the FNP's fault, that's Blaine's fault.

b1sellers

[thumbup]

MrHitshed

Ron Young has done more than enough to drag his own name through the dirt. He doesn't need Blaine's help.

bosco

The shame rests squarely on Blaine. If it were not for his continued sleaze, there would be no story.

Tigerzord

[thumbup]

KellyAlzan

Hey Jill what part of illegal don't you understand?

public-redux

The LTE will have the Streisand Effect of drawing attention to something that one wants to avoid drawing attention to.

KellyAlzan

Yep. My initial reaction.

BstD59

Blaine and his 'friends' simply can't help themselves.

Hayduke2

You would rather that the police "target real crimes".. --- so you think prostitution and the sex industry isn't involved in real crime??? Come on man!

knahs25

As a public official who was, at one time, running for governor, this is indeed front page news.

niceund

If Blaine would keep his pants up there wouldn't be a reason to write a story. He apparently still doesn't get it. His sons are sure learning great lessons.

lewisantq

I wondered how long it would take one of Blaine's supporters to come to his defense. Of course the writer couldn't bring herself to defend Blaine, she attacked the press for doing its job. Bob Lewis

DickD

If it sells papers, the FNP would be negligent not to put in the paper.
