Our country has battled over health care insurance since I entered medical school in 1966.
Here’s a plan which guarantees to give access to all who need care, at a reasonable price and to include a fair charge for pre-existing conditions.
Part 1: Any person, in order to receive health care insurance, must prove that he or she does the following: 1. Stops smoking. 2. Eats a healthful diet of an appropriate number of calories to maintain a healthy weight. 3. Limits alcohol intake to two glasses of wine daily, preferably red. 4. No operate one’s car more than 10 percent above the speed limit. 5. Spend 30 minutes per day exercising.
Regarding health insurance, it need not be attached to one’s employment, it can be sold by any firm in any state to any customer in any state. It should provide for reasonable fees for pre-existing conditions, and lastly, and perhaps most importantly, physicians and other providers should only accept payment from their patients.
Just watch our health system blossom into one that delivers excellent care, to healthier patients and in an economically sound manner.
