I read the puny second-page headline: “Trump: Agreement reached to prevent tariffs” (June 8). It should have been a huge first-page headline that read: “Trump: Fulfills promise to build wall on southern border to keep illegal immigrants out and have Mexico pay for it.” Who else but Trump could get Mexico itself to become the wall?

Finally we have a president in the White House that knows how to get things done in a neighborly way while politicians in the Capitol fidget in their chairs doing nothing but worry, argue, blame and complain.

So “the wall,” which Mexico will build was a metaphor, a figment of Trump’s narcissistic imagination. He accomplished his metaphor by threatening tariffs. Mexico gave in, by agreeing to do what they previously agreed to do. Now his followers are here, again, to make sense of his actions, what he meant. “Call out to all Trumpeters” cleaning on ‘aisle 45”. Meanwhile Trump cuts support to Central American, reducing security and economic opportunities in the northern triangle countries, driving more refugees towards the US... Problem solved.

It took me all day but I finally remembered Finagle's Second Law, which seems to apply here: No matter what result is anticipated, there will always be someone eager to (a) misinterpret it, (b) fake it, or (c) believe it happened according to his own pet theory.

Jim "Who else but Trump could get Mexico itself to become the wall?" What a great observation. Hopefully when Trump is re-[elected Congress will get off their duffs. As a further comment I am curious how dangerous this new wave of immigrants really are. Many States have elected to concede all their electoral votes to the popular vote. I guarantee you a large swath of America does not trust the popular vote tally of California and other similar jurisdictions. We could have a revolution. It is not outside the realm of possibility.

You would not want to meet up with any of those young children in a dark alley at night. They are vicious. Most of those Central American countries teach deadly martial arts starting at age 2. And their mothers are even worse!

public- I hope you don;t believe that. That is just more leftist, liberal, Maddow spin. If you want to get the true skinny listen to Steve Hilton,

And I hope you don't believe rights come from government -- but you seem to.

Nice one Public....

jsklinelga

Public The Bill of Rights is off topic. As my comment about problems from immigration started off topic. I agree with Mr. Devereaux about President Trump's handling of the border crisis by forcing Mexico's hand.

public-redux

I thought the topic was silly ideas.

DickD

Wait until you start paying more for goods Trump has put tariffs on, Jim. Then you will know who's really paying for the wall, if it ever gets built.

Out of curiosity, I checked the front page on June 8th to see what story got the big front page headline. It was the destruction by fire of seven townhouses in Frederick that involved 75 firefighters and displaced 18 people. Seems like a reasonable choice for a local newspaper. I'm not saying that Mr. Devereaux is dismissive of the work of firefighters; but his letter makes me wonder.

DickD

Pope Jim, you better stick to religion because economics is not your forte'.

Jim, Are you saying Trump should not build an actual wall and instead should declare victory on the wall issue? Cool.

awteam2000

Come on Jim, are you in on the con? Mexico was already carrying out or had been planning to carry out the actions that the Trump claimed were part of a deal. Mexico knows nothing about buying more produce from the Midwest? Trump responded by insisting that there were “secret” provisions. 😂😂😂

jsklinelga

Mr/ Devereaux, No matter what the media prints or says the proof is in the pudding. President Trump's 2020 kickoff rally is the real telling of the story.

DickD

You are right, Jim, more of a con job for his cult. True Republicans would never allow Trump and his lies m

jsklinelga

DickD Do you realize how absurd your comments sound. Like will Trump flee the US to avoid jail. Your reasoning has totally fallen prey to blind hatred.

DickD

No, Jim I leave the blind hatred to the Trump cult. I am merely pointing out criminals get put in jail. Trump is a criminal, just not indicted, but identified in Mueller's report.

How so? What was special about this? Seemed like another made for TV production. Where is the heath care improvements, the infrastructure bill, the immigration reform, the middle class tax benefits, the draining of the swamp, the marvelous trade deals, the reduction of the deficit, the improvement of manufacturing and related jobs, etc. I see increased tensions, isolation of America, subsidies to keep farmers quiet, unfilled cabinet and leadership positions, increased social tensions, the wealth not fitlering down, and general chaos is policy.

rbtdt5

So you haven't been paying attention. OK.

hayduke2

Quite the contrary, I have been paying attention. It is you who wears the blinders.

rbtdt5

Except for the deficit he has addressed everything else on your list. I do wish he would do something about the deficit though, but he promised he would and he's been getting so much done so I'll give him a little more time.

hayduke2

Provide the proof of health care improvement, infrastructure, immigration, trade deals, etc. You are not viewing reality.

DickD

Please tell us Rb don't keep it a secret. .[lol]

knahs25

Neighborly way - he has alienated our allies and embraced our enemies. It will take our country decades to get back to where we were before this imitation of a President got in by people who believed his numerous lies.

hayduke2

Yeah, I laughed out loud at this statement too. Talk about spin, this letter is unbelievable.

When Jesus' life was in danger his family fled to Egypt. What part of the message might you be missing.

jsklinelga

Dwasserba It was a temporary relocation.

DickD

Do you think Trump will flee the U.S. to avoid jail, Jim?

gary4books

Who would take him?

public-redux

North Korea? Or maybe he would like to Putin to Russia.
