We in the county are about to be “Blained” again. Let us not fix or correct a problem; let’s just close it. Why can we not just leave the mulch pile in Walkersville open? You can cut back the hours, have somebody monitor the site, put up cameras, charge commercial users a reduced rate and get them to help with the site, move mulch to the back of the park property and shield the view with privacy trees.

Closing this site will just mean more dumping on our rural roads to go with all the tires there now. Sure, somebody is going to drop off their old grill, but you know where to pick it up instead of riding around looking for it.

Use common sense.

Burn piles work pretty good for me..... just saying...

Good letter. I completely agree.

The county is right to close this site. People and contractors have abused it. This site is in a town park but they left it to the county to maintain and clean up. The town could still manage it if they wanted to but it's not easy. If the site was staffed and people had to pay, people would complain about that too. Would this letter writer be willing to pay extra?

Yet the county is saying they’ll do curbside pick up. You know that, right? That will cost no less than to man the site, if not more

I took my yard waste to this place for many years. It was well maintained initially, to include the gate being locked overnight. But gradually noted it being abused & misused and eventually to include the gate being left open 24/7 with little supervision. Recently I stopped using it due to people dumping/obstructing the access area due to the site becoming full or inaccessible due to wet or muddy conditions as well as improper dumping of unauthorized debris. Figured it was a matter of time before the County would shut it down for these reasons, as well as the unsightly condition and the stench during the hot summer seasons and complaints by local homeowners, Conditions slowly deteriorated due to little supervision and adequate management. Employee at Reich Ford facility recently told me they are understaffed and had difficult time managing the Walkersville site when I mentioned I stopped going there due to deteriorating conditions. Unfortunate. County can seem to find money for other matters, but not for other services. Sounds like case of mismanagement by County Government at a higher level?
