Witnesses report seeing a small low flying plane Monday night near the Maryland-West Virginia border, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, then hearing a crash. As of about 9:30 p.m. Monday, police had not been able to locate the plane.

The location of the suspected crash was off of 340 West, near Exit 1. Washington County boat and air units responded, as well as several firetrucks and ambulances. Police searched the nearby river and area, but could not locate signs of a plane or crash.

Hopefully it was a coincidence in which a root soaked tree fell which was mistaken for the plane.


Heard the sirens, was wondering. However , this story has very little to go on. Who called? Any description of the craft? Was this after dark? Were people interviewed? Are there any missing craft reported?
