WASHINGTON — Protesters and supporters of President-elect Donald Trump clashed outside a pro-Trump event in Washington the night before his inauguration. Police used chemical spray on some protesters in an effort to control the unruly crowd.

Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the National Press Club in downtown Washington, where the "DeploraBall" was being held. The name is a play on a campaign remark by Hillary Clinton, who once referred to many of Trump's supporters as a "basket of deplorables."

Protesters booed any time presumed ball-goers in suits, tuxedos or dresses came in or out of the event.

One man waving a pro-Trump flag had debris thrown at him and was chased to the nearby Warner Theater, where Fox News Channel personalities Sean Hannity and Geraldo Rivera happened to be outside waiting to go into another event. Hannity engaged hecklers by raising his fist; Rivera laughed and smiled before entering the theater.

The Trump supporters that place themselves into the "Basket of Deplorables" group amazes me. Do they realize what they're doing? Hillary said you could put half of Trump supporters into the Basket of Deplorables. The racists, sexist, homophobic, Islamaphobic, you name it. The other half is people who feel the government has let them down, the economy has let them down, no one cares about them. If you support Trump, why wouldn't you put yourself into the better half of that group? You're just labeling yourself by calling yourself a deplorable and going to the Deploraball. Hillary didn't do that to you, you did!

most of them are racists, because you never saw them act like a bunch of babies when a white man was running the country.

Thanks for doing your part in over-using an already threadbare term, rendering it even less impactful. Nothing else in the quiver, I guess.

Act like a bunch of babies, Fred? At least none of us ever needed "safe spaces" to deal with the results of an election. [lol][lol][lol][lol][lol]

What amazes me is the confidence with which some, who have no real grasp, opine as if they do. I was there, at the "racist", "homophobic" DeploaBall. Half of speakers were gay, one was black. The crowd was a mix of true diversity-- unlike the artificial bean-
counter sort favored by the intolerant left. It is not about caring who "cares about" us, so stop projecting the narcissistic, snowflake-think; "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio..." It's about restoring what has been squandered and, well, Making America Great Again!
