WASHINGTON — President-elect Donald Trump said Wednesday that he's leaving his business empire to focus on being the nation's 45th president, bowing to pressure to avoid potential conflicts of interest between governing and profiting in the private sector.

"I will be leaving my great business in total in order to fully focus on running the country in order to make America great again," he tweeted in a series of missives sent before dawn. "While I am not mandated to do this under the law, I feel it is visually important, as president, to in no way have a conflict of interest with my various businesses."

He said legal documents are "being crafted which take me completely out of business operations," he added, saying the presidency is "a far more important task!"

Meanwhile, former Goldman Sachs executive Steven Mnuchin, Trump's former campaign finance director, confirmed that Trump has picked him as treasury secretary and that billionaire investor Wilbur Ross has been chosen for commerce secretary.

Trump is tapping conservatives with deep ties to Washington and Wall Street to fill out key Cabinet roles as he continues to deliberate over his secretary of state.

Mnuchin, 53, led Trump's finance operations during the presidential campaign and became close to the president-elect and his family. But he has no government experience, which could prove a hurdle in navigating the tricky politics of Washington.

If confirmed by the Senate, Mnuchin would play a central role in shaping Trump's tax policies and infrastructure plans. He would also lead an agency tasked with implementing international economic sanctions.

Ross is a billionaire investor considered the "king of bankruptcy" for buying beaten-down companies with the potential to deliver profits.

Trump on Tuesday chose Georgia Rep. Tom Price to oversee the nation's health care system, picking a fierce "Obamacare" critic who has championed efforts to privatize Medicare. And he selected another veteran Republican, Elaine Chao, a former labor secretary and the wife of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, to head the Department of Transportation.

Trump is exceeding my expectations. I can't wait until the inauguration when he can really get going.

DickD

So, Trump is putting everything into a "blind trust", does that mean his children will not be involved with them?

MAVRICKinc7

There is no mention of a "blind-trust" in Trump's latest remarks. Although he did say he was not legally bound to the ethics laws of the United States, but as President would certainly be in a position to change the ethics laws to comply with his business ethics. Since he intends to play the role of Monarch in an oligarchy governance frame work it should come as no surprise he is just as likely to LIE to the American public as Bush/Cheney did with the invasion of Iraq, Afganistan and a RECESSION that nearly bankrupted the United States of America in 2007. How much more do we need to see and have paraded before our TV screens and twitter accounts to understand Trump is just playing a flawed game and strategy that part of the American public bought into. No accounting so far why Clinton pulled out 3 million more votes than Trump. Trump claims the difference was made up of ILLEGAL ALIENS who's votes should not have be counted in the popular vote. Is it Trump's intention to rule his world from Trump Towers and communicate with the American public by TWITTER?

WangoTango

Clint Eastwood's quote re Hillary Clinton and any other career politician , for that matter:
There’s been just too much funny business on both sides of the aisle. She’s made a lot of dough out of being a politician. I gave up dough to be a politician.

I love how the left claims Trump's ability to influence public policy is just a means to accumulate more wealth, like he needs it. How many guys out there aged 70, worth 4B and married to a super model would want the headache of being president?
Proof that Trump really does love his country and is willing to make personal sacrifices in order to save it.

DickD

WT, you have missed it. Donald will feather his nest if he can, but more important to Donald is ego and going into the history books as POTUS.

WangoTango

Please. Like the guy is going to outlive his money? Of course ego has SOMETHING to do with it. The guy is already hard at work, saving 1,000 jobs for the people of Carrier in Indiana. Name ONE thing that Obama went out of his way to do that even comes close to this. And don't come back with BS Healthcare Reform as your response.

DickD

WT, health care would be at the bottom of my list, not that is not necessary. It has always been my opinion we should have done something about jobs first, unfortunately, Obama did not see it that way. However, look at it this way, if Obama had done more to get good paying jobs back to the U.S., Hillary would be POTUS today, that would make you unhappy and me happy. Go back in the history books and see what FDR did to restore jobs, Obama should have done the same. Now the Republicans even want to destroy Social Security. God help us all!

MAVRICKinc7

SO Trump pulls an op-ed with Carrier, but what are the details, terms and conditions of the agreement Trump has with Carrier while USING his President-Elect Presidential office as a business arbiter and not as a Presidential wanna-be.

Let's see and hear from Carrier, in writing, what the details of A deal are about, including the small print.
As far as drawing comparisons with Obama and Trump, didn't Obama go out of his way to save this country's bacon and credit ranking from bankruptcy in 2007, or did that just slip your mind and not part of the HISTORY you have selected to make your point.

As a Republican operative and propagandist, should we ever take you at your word since your word continues to be a LIE by OMISSION which you're entitled to have by the Constitution of America. It's almost as though YOU are ENTITLED to LIE to anyone you wish. As most politicians will tell you, "being found out" is their worst nightmare. Isn't that why we must consider YOU as nothing more than a foregone conclusion that you have staked out, always on the other side of the line you continue to draw in the sand. Simply said, you can't bring yourself to LISTEN and identify the FACT there are more sides to this exchange than you are willing to entertain. I call it single-dimension thought/thinking while you may call it the only truth to be had, even if it only amounts to another LIE.

hayduke2

Speaking of Carrier- does this now give every major corporation who wants to leave the US the right to get a sweet deal as the expense of the taxpayer.

Wango - you do know that the parent company relies HEAVILY on government defense contracts so they are merely giving Trump and his sidekick some publicity so they get favored treatment for their government contracts. You guys would crucify Obama if he used his office in this manner.

b1sellers

"Proof that Trump really does love his country and is willing to make personal sacrifices in order to save it." I certainly don't see this as proof of what you claim. Trump is a huge narcissist who hoards wealth. Not so sure it will be the "headache" you think it will be for HIM.

MAVRICKinc7

From what has been decided, Trump has made it abundantly clear he will be DELEGATING his presidential responsibilities to his favorite BILLIONAIRES, Wall Street and the Alt-Right ethics of Reince Priebus and Steve Bannon. As with most politics this is about family values and nothing to do with the public's interest other than being taken to the cleaners a second time since 2007.

You can wiggle and worm your way to your next LIE and claim you have PROOF that Trump really does love this country based on supposition, wordsmithing and guess work that amounts to only heresay which is not admissible to triers of FACT. This is not a court of law , so you can LIE to yourself and anyone else as much as you want.

DisabledFrederickVeteran

Apparently we all forgot 2007 and the US economy on the brink of economic collapse now a Goldman Sachs executive has been placed in charged of the US Treasury happy days are here again!

b1sellers

Not all of us have forgotten

MAVRICKinc7

NO DFV, WE haven't forgotten anything and only expect the next shoe to drop in our laps in the very near future. Suggested reading should include "Mafia Management" and the ways of FAMILY businesses.

DickD

Well, Trump worked with the Mafia in New Jersey, so that will be no surprise.

Fredmd21704

he says a lot of things, 99.99% of them are lies.

CDReid

Still smarting from the Trumping Clinton took I see. I'd like to think that one day you'll grow up and accept the results of the perfectly legitimate election, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

newspostreader

Again, where are the people above not accepting the results of the "perfectly legitimate election"? They're commenting on his picks for the Treasury Department, not the election.

CDReid

"he says a lot of things, 99.99% of them are lies" Try reading it again, slooowly. There is nothing here that is commenting on Trump's picks for administration choices. Jeesh, the way you people take things people say and twist them around to try, TO TRY, to suit your agenda.

DickD

Perfectly legitimate by letter of the law, not by votes counted.

CDReid

The Electoral College and votes counted are both the letter of the law. Dick, there's a reason for the Electoral College. As an intelligent man I'm sure you understand why.

DickD

CD, you fail to realize I also know that Trump never got a majority of the votes, in the primary or the general election. The Republicans count counties that voted for Trump, I count people. No POTUS has been president of a clump of dirt.

teapartier

Isn't Capitol Hill a clump of dirt? It was a lot nicer when Tiber Creek ran through it.

CDReid

Dick, like it or not, Trump legally won the election. Democrats and Republicans alike contend with the way the Constitution was written. If you don't like it, write your congressman. Trump legally WON!

DickD

CD, you keep going off on tangents, my statement was Donald never got a majority of the vote, primary or general election. Yes, by current law he is the POTUS, but that does not mean a majority of the people voted or agree with him and he will have to deal with that, like it or not.

newspostreader

Well gee, Donald, you act like you're doing us a favor. As a President, that should be your primary focus. You also need to run the country from the White House, not NY. If you, Melania, and your child did not want to live in DC, you shouldn't have ran.

CDReid

Hey, the man hasn't even been inaugurated yet, what difference is it to you where he puts his administration together? You liberal sore losers are so full of the hate you accuse others having, you're just either too blind to see it or to cowardly to admit it.

newspostreader

I'm sorry, but where did I say there was a difference about where he puts his administration together? I'm talking about when he is President and running the country. And you accuse me of being a liberal sore loser full of hate, but yet you say I'm the one accusing others of hate? Huh? If that is the case, then pot meet kettle.

CDReid

Well, newspostreader, what exactly did you mean by "You also need to run the country from the White House, not NY. If you, Melania, and your child did not want to live in DC, you shouldn't have ran." As I said, the man hasn't even been inaugurated yet, you don't think he knows that he needs to run the country from the White House? And what makes you think that he, his wife, and child don't want to live in DC? Don't you think that they knew that they would be expected to, and have to, once he takes over the office? Face it, you were just trying to trash the president-elect and got caught with your pants down. "And you accuse me of being a liberal sore loser full of hate, but yet you say I'm the one accusing others of hate? Huh? If that is the case, then pot meet kettle." What??? That's nothing but typical liberal two-speak, trying to draw attention from a fact that I stated.

Tag, bosco.

newspostreader

CDReid, you clearly haven't seen him talk about how he planned to not live at the White House or Melania stating that she will be staying at their home in NY so Barron can remain in school there. So no, I didn't get caught with my pants down. I'm stating facts that came from both Trump and Melania.

CDReid

newspostreader, you might want to get up to date:
"Trump to live in White House
By Matthew Nussbaum
11/20/16 03:51 PM EST
President-elect Donald Trump will live in the White House, he said Sunday, ending speculation about whether he might opt to stay in New York City and reside in Trump Tower or at one of his other properties.
His wife, Melania, and 10-year-old son, Barron, will likely join him after Barron finishes the school year this spring, Trump added.
“Yes, White House,” Trump told reporters when asked about where he will live, per a pool report.
Asked about plans for Melania and Barron to move to Washington, Trump added: “Very soon. After he’s finished with school."
A New York Post article said Melania and Barron would not be joining Trump at the White House in January, which Trump's comments seem to corroborate. Trump spokesman Jason Miller told reporters Sunday morning that "There's obviously a sensitivity" when it comes to moving Barron in the middle of the school year.
Matthew Nussbaum is a reporter.

bosco

[thumbup]......."too blind to see it or to cowardly to admit it".....add to that too busy looking for things to be offended about.

DickD

bosco, what are you and CD arguing about, you are both right wingers. Does degree make a difference to you?

duffy5x

I despise the man and admit it proudly. Period.

CDReid

And I'm proud to admit that I despise both Obama and the Clintons.

DickD

CD, you couldn't possibly despise Obama and Clinton nearly as much as I despise Trump.

CDReid

Yes Dick, I believe I do, and more so.

DickD

Hate? Isn't that the Hallmark of a Republican?

CDReid

I didn't see any Republicans out rioting after the election.

bosco

Isn't digging deep and searching far and wide to find something to be offended about the hallmark of a liberal? I was just telling a colleague about when I attended a gay pride parade in San Francisco that was led by Dykes on Bikes. She got her back all straight and got all incensed and huffy, trying to be offended at my remarks. Hey, that's what they had on their colors - Dykes on Bikes.

CDReid

Got her panties in a wad, did he bosco? [lol]

bosco

"Got her panties in a wad, did he bosco?'.....yep, and it was funny to watch. Same person got offended when somebody else referred to another worker as a Mexican. The guy is from Mexico, and here as a legal resident. I jumped in on that one and led her thoughts by "what would you call someone from Australia?" "Australian" and "what would you call someone from Canada?" "Canadian" and finally "what would you call someone from Mexico?". She couldn't say it. She was so brainwashed by the liberal socialists and so intent on finding something to be offended about, that she is still convinced that Mexican is a derogatory term. Geeze Louise.[lol][lol][lol]

CDReid

Amazing. You'd think they could find a more productive way to live their lives. [rolleyes]

DickD

No, CD, not after the election, before the election, plenty of bad news from his rallies and the mob he had saluting him in Hitler fashion.

WangoTango

C'mon, Dick. There are haters on both sides. Who is doing all the "protesting"? Certainly not Republicans. They are too busy working to fund Social Security quarters they will never see.

MAVRICKinc7

I checked out the comments being made by bosco and CDRed below and found that they are having a one way conversation with themselves. Everything they have said beyond this point has been reduced to "REPORT STATUS" only and no room for rebuttal to their comments with one another. What we know for sure is that both are Republican operatives and propagandist from the far right. Hate is their Republican tribal instinct for survival. What they won is really not known at this time. That's why all the FICTION and LIES are being put forth by bosco and CD and intended only to muddy the waters and make reality as mired and mucky as it has always been.

So far their comments only rise to the same scripted rhetoric we've looked at and listened to for the last 19 months. Their PERCEPTION is that a WAR has been fought and won, when it only amounts to a battle, with the WAR having yet to be waged. That why we call them propagandist.

DickD

Not sure it makes any difference where he lives with modern communications and transportation. But people do expect the POTUS to live in the White House.
