Troopers were asking for the public’s help after a masked man wearing gloves and armed with a handgun threatened a gas station employee early Thursday in Walkersville.
At about 12:30 a.m. Thursday, Maryland State Police, a Frederick County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit and Frederick police officers converged on the Circle K in the 100 block of Sandstone Drive, where an employee told them she had just been confronted by the gunman. The employee ran to a store office and locked herself in, according to a police news release.
Nothing was immediately reported stolen, but attempts to reach a supervisor at the Frederick barrack went unanswered as of 7:30 a.m.
Police determined the gunman ran away less than a minute after entering the store, and a track by a sheriff’s office police dog did not result in an arrest, the release states.
State police searched the immediate area and investigated, according to the release.
Police described the culprit as black, in his teens to early 20s, with a slender build. He was wearing a black mask, a hooded black sweatshirt, blue jeans, white gloves, and white and black shoes. He was armed with a black semi-automatic handgun.
Anyone with information regarding the man or who can otherwise help police solve the crime was asked to call the Frederick barrack at 301-600-4150. Trooper 1st Class James Blumenauer is the lead investigator.
