Police identified a Thurmont man as the person whose body was found last week in nearby Washington County.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday the body of Richard Ellsworth Jones III, 30, was found at 1:45 p.m. on May 30 by a deputy who was in Cascade. The deputy was there for an unrelated matter when notified of a suspicious van, according to a news release.

When the deputy approached the van, which was found in the 25100 block of Cascade Road, decomposing human remains were found inside, according to a release. The remains were taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

Police said there was no risk to the community and the death remains under investigation. No further information was available.
