A bus carrying about 50 students to Gov. Thomas Johnson Middle School was involved in a crash with a sedan just before 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Eleven students were taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital for evaluation. None of the students had serious injuries, said Michael Doerrer, director of communication for Frederick County Public Schools.
The crash was at Schifferstadt Boulevard and East 16th Street in Frederick. The crash occurred when the driver of the sedan ran a stop sign, Doerrer said.
Frederick County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Taylor Clarke said the driver ran the stop sign and was cited for failure to yield the right of way when making a left turn.
Students not taken to FMH for treatment were taken to Gov. Thomas Johnson Middle School on another bus. Parents of the students taken to the hospital have been notified, Doerrer said.
Doerrer did not have an update on the injured students late Tuesday afternoon. He said the school was contacting each family to find out more about the students.
