Four people were injured after a shooting in downtown Frederick early Saturday morning, according to the Frederick Police Department.

Just after 1:30 a.m. officers responded to the area of the 600 block of North Market Street where they located an adult female suffering from a gunshot wound. The female, whose name was not immediately available, was transported to a nearby hospital.

Officers then learned that two adult males and another adult female arrived at area hospitals by private transportation. Their names were not immediately released. All four victims appear to be in stable condition, according to a news release.

After a preliminarily investigation, police do not believe the shooting to be random, but rather stemmed from a dispute.

An arrest was made in connection with the shooting late Saturday. Bryant Helon McMillon Jr., age 34, of Silver Spring, MD, was arrested after officers located an occupied van in a parking lot near the shooting scene.

Inside the vehicle was a quantity of marijuana and a loaded handgun. Officer Durell Deal arrested McMillan.

Bloods vs MS13...its just gangbanger violence, what do you expect being this close to Baltimore? The news and police won't report on gang violence honestly but its just a bunch of stupid kids with guns and made up vendettas...too much tv as a dumb kid

User1

WOW...73 comments and only about 20 on the shooting! More about “bad Orange Man” than the topic. TDS is alive and thriving in Fredneck! Too bad they don’t have Narcan for that!

HomelessVetInMoCo

People don't take responsibility for the violence created from the sale of drugs because they can't believe they don't control whether they're addicted, and government rehabs don't focus on the more important outcome which is the corrupting & destruction of civil society. If this low-life got his weed to sell from Mexican sources then it should be a death penalty. It has become that for the complete corruption & death in Mexico. How many murders in Mexico occur from Americans buying $60 billion worth of drugs? If you can't grow your own or know a doctor who is willing to prescribe drugs you think you need then society is better off without you, permanently.

TiredofStupid

The odds that the weed he is selling came from Mexico are very slim. Most likely came from here. Heroin and the other harder stuff came from Mexico.

jayel86

Who are you to say who lives or dies? You sound pretty dumb here sorry

jayel86

Its gangbanger violence, dumb kids with dumb vendettas and guns. Its pure stupid, nothing more.

mrnatural1

After reading through these comments and feeling the love in the air, it's hard to believe so many shootings are taking place in Frederick. [/sarcasm]

Samanthapowers

happening all around the country, pal. wake up.

KellyAlzan

The new Marriott hotel is going to fit in perfectly

DickD

They can use it for the homeless, to fill all of those empty rooms.

rmaghan1

To Kelly Azan- just in case you want to state your Libby nonsense about building the wall, read this: https://www.foxnews.com/us/illegal-immigrant-rape-seventh-six-weeks

DickD

You can get all kinds of garbage from Faux News.

KR999

And you can get even more kinds of garbage from CNN, MSNBC, etc.

Samanthapowers

Since your so adept at identifying it, you and garbage must be great friends, huh cd/kfc/cs/loo. Everybody has a talent. Lol.

phydeaux994

Do you stay angry 24/7/365 KR999?

Samanthapowers

why does she ask? hmmmmmm. let's see. more than likely she is familiar with your misogynistic bullying and resentment of anything/anyone that thinks, acts, or believes differently from you. that may explain it....

phydeaux994

Read your comments here today as an example KR999. Liberals express their opinions here in detail. Why they disagree with Trump and the reasons they dislike him. It’s called discussion or debate. You never express your opinions in response, why do you support Trump, what has he done to MAGA? You just angrily attack their opinions, but you don’t say why, as most of the RRR(RadicalRightRepublicans) don’t. BTW KR999, did you ever disparage Obama or Hillary or Palosi or Schumer or ??? Karma!

KR999

Correction; "literally."

Joey Pesto

There should be more of a City police presence where the people are. It's hard to find an officer on foot patrol in downtown Frederick during the day time on a Saturday let alone at night when the bars are closing. Once again officers need to get out of their cars and walk the beat. Today, Saturday, in the early afternoon a man and a woman were fighting on Carroll Creek just off of Market St., which was crowded with people, and no officers were nearby. This is not good for our community or for tourism.

mr_twist27

You assuming the city police have enough staffing to be able to do that.

drewboy44

I agree city police should have a foot presence on Friday/Sat night and around soup kitchens when during feeding time. Drinks at night and spice kids at soup kitchens ..

gdunn

Difficult to do with only 7 or 8 officers on patrol to cover 100 plus calls per shift.

Dwasserba

And "the city" is a lot bigger than just downtown.

DickD

This was at 1:30 a.m.

DickD

KR999, we aren't angry, unless you want to call having a good POTUS and Sheriff being angry. But we have plenty of good company and I will take Karl Bickle any day over your choice. I know you know Karl has 2 Master degrees, worked the streets of D.C. and is far more qualified.

qonsus

As always, most of these partisan comments don't understand the origins of drugs and violence, and blame it on the dem mayor, or the cat, the mouse etc.. The violence increase in this country, it's a fact, so who is leading the country? drugs, addiction, violence is a problem that affects everyone, and so it's not a particular party's fault , if anything both parties are to blame for not understanding where the need comes for this mess.

Samanthapowers

Agreed however statistics prove there has been a spike in race crimes since that stain burrowed in to office. How do we explain that?

mrnatural1

We've discussed the crime stats here before. I recall seeing some that made it appear that the violent crime rate had gone down over the last 30 years.

Unless the FNP used to ignore rapes, robberies, shootings, stabbings, and murder -- and only recently started reporting those crimes -- the rate has actually gone up, way UP.

I've lived in Maryland my entire life -- MoCo, then Carroll, and now FredCo (since 1985). There was much less violent crime in Frederick City and County years ago -- at least based upon the reporting in the FNP and other local media.

Maybe the stats are being fudged to make Frederick appear to be the friendly country town it once was?

Don't be fooled -- it's turning into a smaller version of Baltimore. There may be a nice veneer -- Carroll Creek, Baker Park, some nice shops and restaurants -- but Frederick is developing a serious dark side that continues to grow.

On the plus side, developers and anyone involved with residential sprawl is making money. When things get intolerable they will be able to bail out and buy a home in an area that has not been destroyed.

Growth is good?

Samanthapowers

It was friendly when each ‘group’ knew their place. Old Frederick was not exactly a Mecca of good will and open mindedness. Well, maybe towards ones own tribe it was.

mgoose806

Baltimore comes to Frederick. Do nothing Democratic Mayor and Alderman just like Baltimore....Community Policing just like Baltimore..

mrnatural1

mgoose -- I have no idea what the stats are, maybe cities with dem mayors do have higher rates of violent crime (or not).

The main point is that Frederick simply did not have this rate of shootings, stabbings, and murders years ago (regardless of which tribe the mayor was in).

Something has changed. I can't quite put my finger on it *cough* too much development *cough*, too many people *cough*...

Dwasserba

We came in 79 and it was just the start of the influx of newbies (as you and I are). So yeah, it's different when everyone knows everyone or is related to them. Things happen, but it's "a family issue" and yes, possibly not reported on. But to (cough) over development, well, we aren't natives.

mrnatural1

Dwasserba,

When it comes to defending the destruction -- I mean "development" -- of FredCo (or any area) we frequently hear people say:

* No one is a true 'native'. We're all immigrants.

* It's hypocritical to move someplace and then fight against further residential sprawl.

* Growth is good.

Of course none of us are natives, but that does not mean we cannot be opposed to further destruction and reduction in our quality of life.

An analogy is a lifeboat. The last people on board as the boat reaches capacity have just as much right as those who boarded first to insist that no one else be allowed on that boat.

We allow people to vote regardless of how long they have lived here -- whether it's months or decades. Whether they are newly minted US citizens or their family came over on the Mayflower. Everyone's opinion counts.

Just because something was encouraged or allowed at one time does not mean it always will be or should be. Look at zoning. It changes all the time. What used to be an approved use of a parcel last year no longer is this year. "But my pappy always stored old cars there" is not a defense.

The fact is, we're beyond full -- FredCo, America, and the entire world.

Development in FredCo should have ended years ago. Every additional person who moves here, every additional family, further lowers our quality of life. The vast majority are surely good people -- it has nothing to do with them personally -- we are simply over capacity.

To say that we must continue doing something just because we always have is not a compelling argument.

mrnatural1

I meant to add that I bought an existing home built in the 1890s; the previous owners moved out of state; and my wife and I have no children.

So I did not contribute to the sprawling ugliness in any way.

In fact, statistically, most buyers would have had at least a couple kids (yet paid the same amount of property tax).

The only thing better than me (or any person/couple without kids) buying this place would have been if the previous owners bulldozed the house and buildings and established a conservation easement in perpetuity.

User1

What has changed is the migration of inner city thugs to the suburbs. From Baltimorgue and MoCo and DC. And the liberal judges and prosecutors. If the laws are really enforced and punishment imposed then you will see the crime rate go down. Until then...good luck.

BunnyLou

What is the democrat mayor and alderman going to do about their failure to lead on thus subject. Clearly it is their fault since it happened in the city limits. They should have been on the street holding hands and singing ‘we are the world’. It would have melted the hardened hearts of the perps.

DickD

Come on, Bunny, you are being ridiculous. Blame O'Connor for what he can control, not something like this.

BunnyLou

Ok, Dick... Now think about what you and your collective write about the POTUS. Absurd right?

Samanthapowers

What’s absurd - and disgusting- is when you call out Barry for allowing sandy hook on his watch. That is truly scraping the bottom of the barrel. Nothing new.

xwing@aliciousness

@BunnyLou Excellent suggestion! I will personally recommend to O'Connor that we send you out to do just that next time there is a shooting. We'll call it penance for the brain cells that I lost while reading your comments. [thumbup]

Dwasserba

I think she was joking. C'mon.

Samanthapowers

sadly, she was not. she spews some pretty vile and rancid stuff

BunnyLou

Of course it was tongue in cheek.. The point was made at Dicky expense.

BunnyLou

Ouch, I think I just got a tongue lashing from a brain dead liberal. The comment was intended to shed light on those who blame Trump for everything. He pointed out how much of hypocrite you and your type are.

User1

Problem is they are more interested in pleasing the “alphabet” people. You know, those that claimed 20% of the alphabet for their own use. The ones you dare not criticize. Start caring about ALL the legal residents and their future and not just care about your “re-election”.

BKAONE

Naturally it's the president's fault..what a bunch of clowns...local shooting somehow tied to Trump...go kick rocks...enjoy Trump 2020 :)

FCPS-Principal

Another one of the sheriff's success stories.

sdm817

Why are you so obsessed with Jenkins? First case of Jenkins Derangement Syndrome. Get a life already. I would hope you have other things to worry about.

mgoose806

Sheriff's department doesn't patrol the City.. The ineffective Frederick City Police Department does. If you want to be safe...stay in the county where the Deputies patrol.

gdunn

Yeah it's a little difficult covering 70,000 people with just 7 or 8 officers on patrol. don't blame the guys on the street, they're running their butts off.

Dwasserba

[thumbup]gdunn Half of "the city" never even goes downtown except for when they have guests. Yoo hoo we're here

sofanna

Frederick City Police are in charge in the City.

TiredofStupid

That's crazy, expect a huge police presence for a while. At least no morons have tried to make this about the president or anything.

Oh wait...

Samanthapowers

he sure does not discourage that behavior.

All cd/kfc/loo can do is regurgitate what others write or say. Truly a laughable bunch.

MrSniper

Terrible. It was probably precipitated by something petty. My father used to say, “Youth is wasted on the young.” I’m 25 years later, I’m starting to agree. I must be old.

Dwasserba

Ask a teenager, then you'll know

drewboy44

This incident worked its way down to 2nd and market there were numerous fights going on at one time. Just about got out of control. Seemed race motivated by the looks of the fights

Comment deleted.
drewboy44

Nice try but that is a stretch. Blame what you want but not a maga issue

Samanthapowers

a stretch but not out of the realm of possibility. please explain the substantial increase in hate crimes since that fool became president. one could argue there is a direct correlation to his constant fear mongering and hateful rhetoric. Hope the victims are ok.

timothygaydos

some liberals will attempt to blame everything on MAGA and Trump and whoever to sell their hate and racism. As the saying go when they have no facts they go to racism, the children in cages, etc...

Samanthapowers

Please answer my question, Timmy. You can’t.

Samanthapowers

There’s troll cd/kfc/loo. As mentioned, no hate - just pity. Cogent must have been a big word for you. Lol.
