A Virginia man was facing a first-degree murder charge Monday after Frederick County sheriff’s deputies linked him to the death of a woman whose body was found early Saturday.

Deputies were called to English Muffin Court and English Muffin Way at 2 a.m. Saturday where they found the woman lying in the road with “obvious signs of injury,” according to an agency press release issued Monday afternoon. The woman, 31-year-old Winchester, Virginia, resident Kaitlin Nichole Roberts, was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy, the release states.

An arrest warrant was issued a short time later charging 31-year-old Winchester resident Lemuel Lee Roberts with first-degree murder, but Taylor Clarke, a spokeswoman for the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, said the agency was not ready to provide further information regarding how Lemuel Roberts was linked to Kaitlin Roberts’ death or even any relationship between the two.

“We do expect to be able to fully update on this investigation once it is complete,” Clarke said in a written response to The Frederick News-Post’s questions Monday. “It is still very much in its early stages.”

Lemuel Roberts was arrested by sheriff’s deputies in Frederick County, Virginia, at 1:10 p.m. Friday — the day before Kaitlin’s body was recovered in Maryland — on charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, according to arrest records kept by that agency. Roberts was denied bail Monday in an appearance in District Court in Virginia, according to online court records.

Roberts also waived his right to an extradition hearing to return to Maryland, the records state.

Anyone with information related to the homicide investigation was asked to contact Detective Bryce McGuire with the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office in Maryland at 301-600-3934. Tips can also be left anonymously by calling 301-600-4131.

Sooo same last name? Husband? Brother? Maybe ask a few questions next time before reporting?

We asked quite a few questions, it's the answers that were lacking. From the article:

Taylor Clarke, a spokeswoman for the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, said the agency was not ready to provide further information regarding how Lamuel Roberts was linked to Kaitlin Roberts’ death or even any relationship between the two.

Jeremy, reading your write up last night reminded me of the cactus murder. You spend an entire weekend and the following Monday reporting on it. Then, you went deathly silent. Not even a follow up saying “no further information has been provided”. I had to relentlessly mention that we’re waiting for a follow up to get you to do so.

Please, try to improve the communication. When you have vague information - say it.

See that now, thanks. I either missed it in an earlier edition, or just completely missed it, sorry. I just feel like that should have been clearer, instead of people panicking thinking there was a random murder in Frederick versus it being a family member.

Jeremy, I think you and the other news staff are doing a great job. Being a news reporter can't be an easy job.

I found this article : https://www.winchesterstar.com/winchester_star/frederick-county-man-accused-of-killing-ex-wife-in-maryland/article_8ad18751-f1f7-5d92-bb2a-f62d205a0e9a.html
