A Virginia man was facing a first-degree murder charge Monday after Frederick County sheriff’s deputies linked him to the death of a woman whose body was found early Saturday.
Deputies were called to English Muffin Court and English Muffin Way at 2 a.m. Saturday where they found the woman lying in the road with “obvious signs of injury,” according to an agency press release issued Monday afternoon. The woman, 31-year-old Winchester, Virginia, resident Kaitlin Nichole Roberts, was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy, the release states.
An arrest warrant was issued a short time later charging 31-year-old Winchester resident Lemuel Lee Roberts with first-degree murder, but Taylor Clarke, a spokeswoman for the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, said the agency was not ready to provide further information regarding how Lemuel Roberts was linked to Kaitlin Roberts’ death or even any relationship between the two.
“We do expect to be able to fully update on this investigation once it is complete,” Clarke said in a written response to The Frederick News-Post’s questions Monday. “It is still very much in its early stages.”
Lemuel Roberts was arrested by sheriff’s deputies in Frederick County, Virginia, at 1:10 p.m. Friday — the day before Kaitlin’s body was recovered in Maryland — on charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, according to arrest records kept by that agency. Roberts was denied bail Monday in an appearance in District Court in Virginia, according to online court records.
Roberts also waived his right to an extradition hearing to return to Maryland, the records state.
