Field Hockey

Middletown scored two second-half goals, erasing an early deficit, to win the Central Maryland Conference championship on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Linganore at Hood College.

The Knights tied the match at 1 with 2 minutes, 37 seconds to go in the first half. Paige Welch scored the tying goal on an assist from Lilly Hoffman. Welch scored the go-ahead goal four minutes into the second half. Haley Barnett had the assist.

Barnett all but clinched the win for the Knights with 17:37 to go in the game on an assist from Madison Stewart.

Paige Wilhelm scored Linganore’s goal in the first 10 minutes of the game on an assist from Sierra Ross.

FCC headed to regionals

Frederick Community College punched its ticket to the NJCAA Division I Region XX Tournament with a 5-0 win over Harford Community College on Friday in a play-in match.

The Cougars (11-1), who have won eight straight matches, are ranked 18th in the most recent NJCAA Division I standings. They will face the Community College of Baltimore County-Essex-Hagerstown Community College winner in the regional quarterfinals at CCBC-Catonsville at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Justin John-Langba had two goals for FCC. Vagner Marques-Rodriguez, Luis Flores and Cherif Dicko each had one.

Ismael Hernandez earned the shutout in goal.

NJCAA Division I Region XX Quarterfinals

FCC 6, HCC 1

Lindsey Brant and Madison Sorrell each had two goals for Frederick Community College (6-3), which faces top-seeded Harford at 4 p.m. on Thursday in the regional semifinals at CCBC-Catonsville. Kelsey Bowers and Kaia Asmar each had one. Kelsey Wright had two assists.

Girls Soccer

Tuscarora 4, St. James 2

Hannah Thompson had one goal and two assists to help the Titans improve to 4-6-1.

Skylar Andrews, Alexia Lee and Andrea Monninger each had one goal for Tuscarora. Jordan Bonanno had one assist. Keeper Katelynn Brady-Benzing had three saves.

MSD wins title

The Orioles beat Covenant Life 24-26, 25-19, 25-15, 25-15 in the MIAC championship match. In the semis, MSD beat MACA 25-17, 25-18, 25-19.

Leaders for MSD were: Cassidy Perry, 16 kills, 12 digs, 4 blocks; Citrine Lummer, 12 kills, 12 digs; Milana Bielucke, 22 digs, 6 aces; Sascha Tansky, 21 assists, 7 digs, 3 aces; Alyssa Glennon, 16 assists, 4 digs; Rajena Guettler, 10 kills; Ariella Zfati, 7 aces.

College Volleyball

Hood loses two

The Blazers lost to Southern Virginia 25-20, 25-11, 25-22 and to York 25-8, 25-17, 25-14.

Elena Zinaich had 20 total kills and four blocks. Payton Belella had 39 assists and 17. She surpassed 3,500 career assists. Carmella Fouts added 20 digs. Renee Reus finished with 18 digs.

College Field Hockey

Alvernia 7, Hood 0

Blazers goalie Hailey Poisal had 17 saves, putting her over the 800-save mark for her career.
