Smaha won 41 percent of his faceoffs against Middletown’s Roland Hockenberry, a top faceoff specialist, leading the undefeated Hawks to a 21-6 win over the Knights in the Central Maryland Conference championship game on Saturday at Hood College. It’s the first CMC title for the Hawks.


Ella Auderset, Urbana, track and field

Auderset recorded a personal-best time of 56.35 seconds in the 400, which qualifies her for the New Balance Outdoor Nationals. Auderset recorded the time during Wednesday’s Central Maryland Conference championships at Oakdale.


Kate McLister scored four goals, leading a balanced effort for Middletown’s girls lacrosse team in a 17-4 over Tuscarora for the Central Maryland Conference championship on Saturday at Hood College. It was the first CMC championship for the Knights’ girls.

Urbana’s softball team clinched the CMC Spires Division crown with a 1-0 win over Linganore on Friday. The Hawks face Catoctin in the conference championship game at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Hood College.

Claire Thomas hit a walkoff home run in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving Linganore’s softball team a 6-5 win over Middletown on Wednesday.

Oakdale’s boys and Urbana’s girls won respective team titles on Wednesday at the Central Maryland Conference track and field championships at Oakdale.

Middletown’s girls tennis team snapped Urbana’s 84-match winning streak with a 3-2 win over the Hawks on Thursday.
