Boys Jordan Byrd, Urbana, football

Helping to pick up the slack due to an injury to Eric Kolar, Byrd rushed for 168 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Hawks to a 39-20 win over Frederick on Friday.

Girls Sydney Katz, Oakdale, volleyball

Katz recorded her 2,000 career assist for the Bears in a 3-0 shutout of Thomas Johnson on Thursday.


• Linganore’s Xander McClure had 300 all-purpose yards for the Lancers on Friday in a 54-15 win over Tuscarora in area football on Friday.

• Middletown quarterback Reese Poffenbarger and receiver Brian Walker connected on five pass plays for 69 yards and three touchdowns in the Knights’ 51-12 football win at Brunswick on Friday.

• Oakdale’s boys and Urbana’s girls won respective team titles at the Frederick County Public Schools Cross-Country Championships on Thursday at Catoctin High School. Oakdale’s Kyle Lund (17 minutes, 28.85 seconds) and Middletown freshman Erin McQuitty (20:36.11) won respective individual boys and girls county crowns.

• Jacob Osafo-Mensah had a hat trick for St. John’s Catholic Prep’s boys soccer team on Wednesday in a 3-0 shutout of Cristo Rey Jesuit School.
