What do coaches see in you that make them think you can do well in the secondary?

I think [it’s] the mentality of next play and I’m out there to compete.

As a cornerback, do you like being out on an island at times?

I love it. It’s my favorite part of the game. I just like to compete, and I just think I’m better one-on-one against anybody.

On the other side of the ball, as a receiver, being among several guys who can catch the ball, can you talk about how your quarterback, Reese Poffenbarger, handles that responsibility?

Reese is a fantastic quarterback. In my opinion, he’s the best quarterback in the county. He just sees you open and gets it there. He’s great at what he does.

You also play basketball for Middletown. Are there any skills that you can transfer over from one sport to another?

I think being able to high-point the ball, it’s just like a rebound when I’m back there on defense. When the quarterback throws the ball up, it’s just being able to go up there and get it. Also, the footwork, being able to move side-to-side — wherever the receiver goes.

Do you have a favorite sport, or do you like both? Football is definitely my favorite sport. It’s just being able to come out here, hit somebody and not get in trouble for it.

Jalen is already very good and he is only a sophomore. Good probability of getting some college offers, time to start planning that now.
