Catoctin 65, Brunswick 39

THURMONT — Amanda Hackney and Stephanie Andrew each had 12 points for Catoctin (8-6, 5-3 Antietam) in the win Thursday night.

Kristy Erfurdt had 11 points, nine rebounds, six assists and five steals. Whitney Wenmouth had four assists. Mackenzie Smith had 10 rebounds.

Melanie Yeomans had 15 points and seven rebounds for Brunswick (3-12). Morgan Laing had 10 points, seven rebounds. Peyton Allison had five assists.

Catoctin also won the junior varsity game, 31-17.

TJ 53, Linganore 38

Troniqua Black had 20 points, 12 rebounds, five blocks and three steals for Thomas Johnson (10-3, 4-3 Piedmont). Sophia Morrow had four blocks. Jae’shon Swann had nine assists and four steals.

Kelli Griffith had 13 points for Linganore.

TJ also won the junior varsity game, 66-24. Tyrae Byrd had 22 points for the Patriots. Mollie McSweeney had 18.

New Life 25, CVCS 6

Kelsi Stopyra had nine points and 12 steals for New Life Christian (9-6). Mallory Shoemaker had eight rebounds.

Connor Brown had 24 points, 18 rebounds and eight assists for New Life Christian (9-7). Austin Brown had 22 points. Jeremiah Chambers had 10 points and three steals.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Yave Sanchez had 15 points and 12 rebounds for Maryland School for the Deaf (3-11), which plays Model Secondary School for the Deaf in the consolation bracket. Jake Bonheyo had four steals.

The Catoctin Duals wrestling tournament will be held this weekend, Friday and Saturday.

Aside from Catoctin, teams that will compete are Boonsboro, Damascus, Frederick, Fairfield, Lackey, Liberty, Magruder, Mountain Ridge and Oakdale.


EMMITSBURG — Mount St. Mary’s senior attack Brett Schmidt was selected by the Rochester Rattlers in the fifth round of the 2013 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft last week.

Schmidt is the first Mount player to be selected in the MLL Collegiate Draft.

Schmidt earned All-Northeast Conference honors for the third time in his career last season with a second team All-NEC selection at the attack position.

Schmidt had 29 goals and 19 assists for 48 points last season.

For his career, Schmidt is tied for 15th all-time at the Mount with 136 points.

The Mount opens the 2013 season at Maryland on Feb. 12
