SWIMMING AND DIVING

Tuscarora girls swimmers set six meet records and won the team title at the Class 4A-3A South region swim meet at the Fairland Aquatic Center on Saturday. Frederick won the boys team title.

The Titans won the girls crown with 372 points, beating second-place Eleanor Roosevelt, which had 347.

Two Tuscarora relay teams won by setting meet records — Laura Mancinelli, Sophia Routzahn, Emily Lutz and Harper Bumgardner in the 200 medley relay (1:54.69), and Harper Bumgardner, Lutz, Quinn Bumgardner and Rouzahn in the 400 freestyle relay (3:49.35).

Lutz got wins and meet records in both 200 IM (2:14.14) and 100 butterfly (59.93). Routzahn got wins and meet marks in both the 100 freestyle (54.44) and 100 breaststroke (1:05.91).

Tuscarora also got victories from Quinn Bumgardner in the 200 freestyle and Mancinelli in the 100 backstroke.

Frederick’s Rachael Bostian set a meet record in the 500 freestyle with a winning time of 5:22.91.

The Cadets won the 4A-3A South boys team title with 300 points, beating second-place Eleanor Roosevelt, which had 270.

Frederick’s two wins came in relays. Benjamin Schattenberg, Bryan Murr, Michael DeGirolamo and Jaxen Farrell won the 200 medley relay, while Dominic Nestor, Murr, Schattenberg and Mason Bator won the 400 freestyle relay.

Other Frederick County swimmers to win events in the 4A-3A boys meet were Tuscarora’s Benjamin Mercier (200 IM and 100 butterfly) and Urbana’s Daniel Jeong (100 backstroke).

In the 3A-2A-1A West region meet at the Fairland Aquatic Center on Saturday, Middletown’s Kathryn Pressly won the 50 freestyle with a meet-record time of 24.85.

Walkersville finished a Frederick County-best third in the 3A-2A-1A West boys team standings. The Lions’ Michael Flegel won the 50 and 100 freestyles.

Thomas Johnson’s Robert Xu won the boys 100 breaststroke.

Oakdale placed a county-best third in the girls team standings.

Poolesville won both the boys and girls team crowns.

In Friday’s 3A-2A-1A West diving meet, Oakdale’s Nathan Murphy won the boys title, and Linganore’s Jessica Buntman won the girls crown at the Kennedy Shriver Aquatics Center.

Winners and other qualifiers from the regional swimming and diving meets advance to the state meets.

The state diving competitions will be held Friday at the University of Maryland’s Eppley Recreation Center. The state swim meets will be held at the same location on Saturday.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Georgia Southern 6, MSM 1

The Mount closed out the Eagle Round Robin with a loss to host Georgia Southern on Sunday.

Mount freshman Kaia Bonshock went 3-for-3, including an RBI single.

Jordan Weaver took the loss, walking the only batter she faced. Katie Olson allowed four runs in two innings of work, while Avery Neuhart pitched the final four innings, allowing one run.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Warriors 47, St. John the Baptist 42

Ella Bennett led the Frederick Warriors (6-11) with 19 points, 14 rebounds, three assists and three blocks.

Julianna Passarelli had seven rebounds and three assists.

BOYS BASKETBALL

St. John the Baptist 70, Warriors 44

Tyler Lindley led the Frederick Warriors with 23 points, six rebounds and four steals.

Aaron Chew had six rebounds, and Luke Boughner had five assists.
