Signs of Kline

Editor’s Note: This is an update on the progress of TJ grad Branden Kline, who is a rookie right-handed relief pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles:

Kline entered Tuesday night’s game to start the sixth inning with the Orioles trailing the Dodgers 7-0. He got pinch hitter Matt Beaty to pop out on three pitches before surrendering a ground-rule double to Chris Taylor.

Cody Bellinger, who has 44 home runs, stepped to the plate, and Kline walked him on four pitches, not offering a single fastball to the young slugger.

Kline then got Enrique Hernandez to ground into a 6-4-3 double play on one pitch to end the inning.

It was Kline’s second straight scoreless inning since his latest promotion last month. His ERA sits at 6.88 in 28 outings this season.
